Mike, Beautiful work on the canoe.  Cedar strip canoes are popular here in the wet Pacific NW.  What kind of finish are you planning for her?  Clear WOP or linseed oil perhaps?  I'd like to follow along on this one.  Keep up the good work.  She's going to be a real "looker" when you finish.

I messed up on my canoe, the instructions said to soak the ribs in 50/50 solution of water and ammonia. I let them soak for 3 hours and then I started to glue them in, the ca glue turned white and dried hard. I’ll have to removed clean them and reglue , I should’ve rinse them off before I glued them in. I’ll never use ammonia again.

Watching this build with interest.

This canoe (and the Petersboro) sits in my stash. I am thinking one of those may be my next build.

Good start.  Building these is a lot of trial and learn process.

Good fix from the ammonia problem! When I was making the Peapod, which has the same construction method, I found it useful to use a spacer block to help keep the frames even.

Posted

I checked on the plans how far apart the frames are supposed to be, and used scrap wood to make a small piece of the same width. After getting the first frame in place, I just placed the spacer to make sure each subsequent frame was even.

Looks good to me.  Keep up the work and it will come together nicely.
