Restarting my Build Log of my AL Le Renard

Finished off the spanker this weekend, I had a gaggle of ladies over working on various craft projects and I figure it was motivation to get it sewen.

20-30 hours to hand sew a sail, next ship I'm learning to use a sewing machine. That being said I like the hand sewen look.

Have started to rig it into place, an interesting juggling act. Particularly when the furbaby want attention and knows just how to get it

Another night of work and one foresail is in place and rigged, spanker rigging is complete and the main backstays are rigged, not much more I can do in terms of rigging, so now its on to sewing the next two foresails.

On a side note I really need to find my camera as phone images do not really show any rigging detail.

It's been nice for the last three nights doing some work that is not so repetitive a.k.a sail sewing or ratlines.

Slowly plugging along, 3 more sails to stitch and a few dozen other little things and she will be done!

How long that will take is any mans guess, the next few months will be hectic with my shooting competition schedule.

Almost Done now, last sail finished and in place.

Put all the rigging in place but ran out of time tonight, will glue/set them tomorrow night and then work on the final touches of making rope coils and trimming all the loose ends.

THE END IS NIGH!

Finally finished 8 and a half years after I started.

Pretty happy overall, glad to be finally finished, somehow it survived 3 moves during that time.

Very nice build. I've been working on the same kit for some time now and I'm impressed at how well your hull turned out, particularly given that molded bow thing that comes with the kit.

I'd been thinking about leaving the sails off mine, but now I'm rethinking that decision after seeing your ship.

Under construction: Mamoli Roter Lowe

Completed builds: Constructo Enterprise, AL Le Renard

Up next: Panart Lynx, MS Harriet Lane

In need of attention: 14-foot Pintail in the driveway

Thanks for the comments guys, it means a lot to get complements on something I have spent so long working on, I dont even care to think how many hours went into it, the sails alone took months.

Yeah no comment on the molded bow.....i pretty much carved it down with sandpaper and a exacto knife, turned out surprisingly well.

You got a build that you can say you did. I believe one can't measure the time it takes to build a ship, a person goes at his\her own pace and should never rush. Now what is your next build going to be.

Wacko

Great build, looks really good. Thanks especially for the pics, they've been of serious help as my model, built 10 years ago, met with an accident and I had to strip the rigging to repair the damage. Now reassembling with whatever plans I can lay my hands on. Again, thanks.

I love cutters. I'm so glad you opted to include the sails. As you say, they take a lot of time and effort. But the difference between a cutter model with one tall mast and no sails set, and a cutter with all that area above the deck defined and outlined by an acre of canvas , is remarkable. Also I would bet that the model with the sails set will not have its long thin bowsprit broken off one day by an accidental swipe of a careless hand since its white solidity defines the outline of the model.

Really nice job. I like how you kept a lot of the natural wood exposed. I just built this model as my first ship to occupy myself during the pandemic 2mo lockdown. Now I want to go back and start it all over again and take much longer than the 2 months I spent on mine after looking at yours. I going to take my time on my next one great workmanship
