Nice and square, but I'd do all the rope work and blocks before you stick it on for good

Thanks George and for those likes too. They are much appreciated.

I traced the rail templates onto some 1/16" basswood sheet and strip wood and cut the pieces out oversize on the scroll saw. I sanded the edges down until they fit correctly with a slight overlap on each side of the bulwark. I didn't put a design into the edges but did round them slightly. The widths of the middle pieces were adjusted to be the same as the width of the bow piece plus the piece that goes to the stem on the front, and the back of that second piece was adjusted to the width of the straight strip wood used for the third piece, which will also be used for the rails behind the open waist. The scarf joints were cut in using an X-Acto knife and cleaned up with a small diamond file.

I drilled small holes through the rail pieces into wood supports in the bulwarks, and put in some 28 gauge wire pieces, just to hold them in place while I fit them and their neighbors. I don't know if I will use the wire when I glue these in place after priming and painting them black. I may use the wire to position them then take it out if they look like they are attached well enough, which I suspect they will be. The joints are OK between pieces, but I know I will be adding a little wood filler and repainting the tops of the rails after they are installed, since these rails are painted. They are good practice for when I build something that I won't have paint to fall back on.

Sorry to hear you've been unwell Augie. Wishing you a speedy recovery and return to the shipyard. I prescribe a medicinal dosage of good brandy - about a quart should do it!

Augie I wish you a speedy recovery. I am truly amazed at the artistry you put into your work. You and a few others on this forum have shown me I can think outside the box and still build a beautiful ship. I have to make sure I don't try to get in a hurry. Take care.

Go back and look at their veneers. They stock ebony. They also, although not on subject have a great selection of tools

As for pricing, if you choose not to support your local brick and mortar they will just say good bye. I buy online but always support the locals, even if it cost me a little more. This does not include Walmart. Sorry

I started this thread, and I think it was a comment I made later about Jeff's payment policies, that unchained these long posts by both sides. I'm glad that the final outcome seem to be an understanding on both parties. At least, I hope so.
I would like to do business with Jeff sometime in the future.

Thanks Greg. Those extra cannon carriages I used came from Model Expo. They sell a complete set for the gun deck. I think it is on the same page as the Constitution kit on their web site.

Your ship is looking amazing! I have a Conny on its way but it was back ordered. I read your post about Chucks cannon carriages and was wondering where to order those. If I missed your post on it, I apologize. Thanks so much

I did some checking, and after taking a long hard look at Chuck's cannon and carriages, I think I'll go ahead and order the cannon kit from Model Expo, and get Chuck's carriages to put the cannon on. The brass ones sure are pretty, but I just can't justify spending $120 for brass cannon only to blacken them later. But the carriages are nicely detailed and would be the right size, or at least real close, as his 12 pounder is only 1.1mm shorter than Model Expo's 24 at 38mm, and actually, side by side, they look almost identical to each other.

    Cheers

Geoff your doing a great job on your ship. I ordered mine on September 6, 2015 from Model Expo and haven't received it as of yet. Your painting detail is fantastic. Could you give us some pointers on how you do that fine line painting on your ship. Thanks for a great job.

Mundie, Good save but you may want to re-think your use of epoxie. Regular wood glue is much more forgiving, holds great and can be taken apart pretty easy. We have all had to take stuff apart but like CaptainSteve said, the wood glue comes apart really well with isopropyl. The 99% pure works great and won't cause the grain to lift. The 70% pure has 30% water and will raise the wood grain.
