Your close up shots show how rigging is supposed to be... and an additional reason why I don't take close and tight shots of mine
Your work is a fine example for us (me) rigging newbies. Merci!

Yeah, I thought the canoe would get a reaction... ... but it was serious since all those others are long term projects and I like that about them but there is also something about doing a simpler task and doing it very well...
A couple months ago someone on here showed a peterboro canoe that he made for a wedding present and his was beautiful... it got me thinking... so yes, one of midwest's canoes is a definite.... it's the others that I'm hemming and hawing about....

And yes here we are again...
    A little update !
The lower part of the mizzen mast have there ratlines…...
I have ordered yesterday the chains and deadeyes that I need for the fore mast.
So when they are here I can go further on the fore mast.
For now it is puzzling how the rope goes around the fore mast to the main mast.
It goes around it with blocks somewhere in the middle…..
This is a nice thing to do when it is a rainy saturday

There you go, Sjors, you didn't have to wait too long

Of course, super close up does nobody any favours....

Anyway, the open heart for the forestay collar was made by cutting down an oversized heart. I'll use a smaller one for the preventer stay collar, but overall I like the appearance. The bobstay also looks much better now that it's served all over. Of course I can't much help having another gratuitous figrehead shot.... just to bug Augie

That could be a new meme around here.... the gratuitous figurehead photo.... hmm....

A small pause for the weekend, a few more chores to take care of up north. Back monday-ish.

Take your time.....your motivation will come back.  I promise!  We all hit a little flat spot now and then (especially during the dreaded rats).

Clarify... sure... with pictures of course. The idea, again, not an accepted rigging solution but one of convenience at this point is as shown. Instead of going thru holes the connecting shroud stays outside of the disc (blue lines with deadeyes etc.).

    Hi Guys,

Just a quick update on the weekend.

Grant arrived at Chatham rail station dead on time ( good old BR ) and we hooked with no probs, it was at the car that I told him there were two others who would like to meet him, you should have seen his face, it was a mix of delight to see Anja and abject fear on seeing Sjors  . It was one of those wonderfull moments.

The day at Chatham was great, Dave, our guide went out of his to assist us and he showed us everything we wanted to see and more, even a model from 450 odd years BC.

On returning home it was of course catch up time on MSW and a very warm and friendly evening was enjoyed by all, turned in about 10:30 cos none of us are spring chickens any more and we had a fairly early start on Sunday, Grant slept in  .

Time at Portsmouth was limited due to Grants schedule but the Mary Rose Exibition, Victory, Victory Museum and the Warrior were all visited, lunch was somewhere in there as well.

We dropped Grant of in Southampton at 15:30 so that he could pick up his hire car and said a very sad farewell.

Anja, Sjors and myself got home at 19:00 and got stuck into a Chinese take away and enjoyed a relaxing evening.

My house is empty now and all the sadder for it, I dropped A & S off at the dock and a further sad farewell ensued.

So Sjors now has his aggy so look out, it's gonna happen.

I would like to openly thank Grant, Anja and Sjors for bringing life and laughter into my home and for a truly great weekend, THANKS GUYS.

    First meeting at Chatham

Sjors carrying his Aggy and Anja is glad this the last pic

    What they said...
Believe me, I know the frustration this gal can give ya. I've redone and redone and then decided to redo parts again. I want to put her on a shelf, and I too thought of how many btu's she'd produce but I won't do it. I can't trash her, warts and all. Neither can you.

I also know the frustration of feeling like I'm not having fun... and that's when I walk away and do other stuff. Lots of other stuff and I forget about her.... until one day I decide to look at her and see where I left off.... might tie a ratline... might not.... or I might tie 3 or 6 or a dozen... either way... I have no timeline to define what I SHOULD do so I do what I want to do and what I feel comfortable doing... my ship, my timeline, my hobby. Naturally the same applies to you.

Give yourself a breather.... both you and your ship will benefit

Did another dry fit and then actually attached some things.

Also painted a bunch of parts.

The fore stack is fastened in place but the aft stack is not.  Claire thinks the aft stack 'leans'.......    Perhaps it does but it is not perceptible to me.....

Can anyone else perceive a lean?..

Did the access stairs and guide lines for the pilot house............small parts...... :D :D

The last pic show some of the remaining items.....yet to have their colors 'approved'.....

Ant then I'll start work on the masts.......probably leave the ratlines for last........ :P :P :P

    Cheers,

So how exactly do you catch the flies to tie, Mr Miyagi style with chopsticks or do you lasso 'em and isn't that kinda cruel to the flies. I mean I hate flies myself but I usually just swat them and put them out of their misery. So do you keep them as pets after tieing them?

    Hi Guys,

Thank you one and all for the very kind words and encouragement, when you try something new it's great to have so many friends offering help and advice so thank you again.

I have made a little progress on the Aggy, not a lot though, I've been scalded by " he who shall remain nameless " for not posting sooner so here goes.

I have made a start on the gun port lids as you will see.

Hull steps and fenders are on and painted, nothing to get excited about there, but I did pick up an idea, the manual states to drill 1.5 and 1.0mm holes for the Main Brace, Mainsail Sheet, Foresail Sheet, Spritsail Yard Sheet and Mainsail Tack, just a hole didn't seem right so I innovated by using 4mm deadeyes to make sheaves, I sanded down the oval sides to flat and bob's your uncle - done. I do have some picks of those.

Also I made a rope server using styrene sheet, dowel, a servo which was altered, some gears, brass tube and some washers and a battery box for 4 x 1.5 volt batteries. It does take some getting used to because of the motor, although not fast it's fast enough if you cock up, first time I used it to practice I made a right mess but it does work, some pics to follow.

Secondly, I made a block tumbler, I used the Admirals garden string tin, some sand paper ( don't know the grit ), dowel and some drawing pins. It's going to fall apart on me but it has done the job for two ship's so plenty of time to make a proper one, and yes I did say two ships. I also done the second Aggy for you know who, again some pics to follow.

Enough words, now Sjors favourite, Pics

The first of what seems many gun port lids

Steps and fenders on the Starboard side

The first of the sheaves, this is for the Main Brace

This one is for the Mainsail Sheet

On the left is the Foresail Sheet, right, Spritsail Yard Sheet with the Mainsail Tack ahead of that.

    One botched serving machine

    Battery box and servo

Some very simple gears, if I'm doing it they need to be simple

One string tin, ( with permission I might add)

    Lids off now

    Simple shaft

Results on some of the blocks treated

It's a very simple structure and took me about 45 mins to construct but it has reasonable results.

So there we are, I do have some guys to thank for the ideas, Andy and Augie, thank you gentlemen.

Sjors I do hope these meet your very exacting standards my friend.

    thanks Sjors.

basically what happened was that a car put on his indicator late which caused the car in front of me to have to brake hard. I was a safe distance behind him and with braking hard (with which I don't mean screeching tears and burning rubber ) a came to a halt about 1 meter behind it at which time the car behind slammed into me pushing me forward. the police say I should have been able to stop at least a car length behind the one in front. well I am not so young anymore and my reaction was probably not as good as it should have been but I came to a halt safely without hitting anything so isn't that safe enough
well I will object to the ticket  when it comes not sure if that will do anything but I can only try

anyway I am ok I have sorted out a replacement car for the time its in repair so all is good

Fine lesson learned tho for all of us... never work on delicate details when not in the right frame of mind. You recovered beautifully but seeing that break had to add insult to injury.

I could not resist applying first protective thin layer of semi-matt Nelson varnish after sanding the hull. There are still quite a few details to take care of and the first layer also revealed a few poorly finished spots, but the overall result is good, in my opinion. Looks like I will have to use those copper tapes elsewhere, treenails FTW

Good day Jim. I just happened upon your build... very nice work. I am thinking of the Seguin by BlueJacket as my "potential" next build so this is right up my alley... info wise.
This will be fun to follow along with.

I'm curious tho... how do you rate the kit? How are the instructions and fitting etc. from Bluejacket? They don't seem to be a company that is used as often as so many others and I wonder if it is the cost or the quality that makes them more "rare".
