I am very pleased with the positive reactions to the use of a CNC milling machine in the construction of the model, but to be honest, I myself would need a lot of lessons from more experienced people (at least as far as 3D computer modeling is concerned).
To Vladimir_Wairoa: I use French Sajou threads, which are waxed (at least that's what the manufacturer says), so I don't have so many problems with "hair" on the ropes.
I continue making pendants and lower mast shrouds.

    Hi Mark,
Please share what blade you bought from Martindale for standard ripping of planks and also for stock thicker than 1/4.   I have adjusted my fence quite a bit per instruction and still get stalling in anything much over 1/4 depending on the length of the cut.  This is one of the main reasons I want to buy a band saw.
    Thanks

While trying to make the Quarter piece blanks, I deamed it a good idea to mark out where the Quarter badges would be so there would be no interference between them, so here is the beautiful QB that I commissioned from David Antscherl.

There is a lot of distortion but here is a picture of Mike’s Winnie next to the speedwell for a size comparison.   The Speedwell is about 7” shorter at 3/8” scale even though the picture makes it seem like more.  That is after all the framing is done.  Only 8 more square frames to go…since this picture was taken.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement!  It is very appreciated.

    I carry on.

Here are the two sets of bollard/hawse timbers spot glued to the stem.  As I previously wrote, the port set seem to be okay, and the starboard set was the trouble.   This set looked like it was going to work out--

However, after removing them, and doing some more rough shaping, I discovered that the second hawse timber out was not okay.   I unglued it, and cut a new one, very oversized, to replace it--

I spot glued this one in place, and rough shaped the assembly--

Though these are FAR from perfect, and still require plenty of fairing, I pray that they are sufficient; though I will not be surprised to find out farther down the line that they have problems!

They will not be permanently glued into place until I have more of the forward framing done.

Probably the most difficult part to produce so far - Wing Transom.  I used every tool in my shop (mill, all the sanders and chisels).  I left off the dove tails in the rear of the part as it may make aligning the legs of the stern trickier later.  They really aren't necessary for the structure and the risk of screwing up my third attempt at this part isn't worth it !

Gentleman - clearing the decks for the next project along with my LGV and I will never get to these.  They are looking for a home.  You pay for the shipping from Illinois and make a donation to the NRG and they are yours.  Wappen hull is complete as are the kits contents and Chucks Winnie is ready for the gunport framing with the cherry included in stage 2 along with the boxwood carvings.  Contact me with any questions.

Thank you guys for very nice comments. Preparing to make these blocks was quite a challenge for me. But the result exceeded all my expectations. Uncritically, I have to admit that I myself am very satisfied with the result..
To Hsae - The blocks are made with a CNC milling machine, not from Proxxon, but a commonly available Chinese milling machine. The material for the blocks is pear.
The construction of the model moved to the next stage - rigging. I start by attaching the bowsprit.

    Hey Group,

I found a new hardwood dealer in the Northwest Suburbs offering dimensioned Black Cherry with the hope of having a local source/easy access.    Here are the results of two samples, the Pear lumber I currently own and Cherry sample sanded and finished with one coat of pure tung oil.

The Cherry is pretty but much darker and figured -  more appropriate for furniture than ship building in my opinion.

I decided to order another flitch of Pear for 300 dollars and have my cabinet maker break it down into 1/2 inch billets for 100 dollars for the hours worth of work.  I really don't want to resaw boards and worry about the dust and floor space of a larger 14 inch bandsaw - so I will probably go ahead and buy the 10 inch Grizzly or Jet which should be sufficient for my needs cutting 1 inch thick or less hardwood.

Send me a PM if anyone is interested in the Hardwood Dealer here in Chicagoland.  They also offer Walnut, Cherry and Hard Maple.  Nice guys.

    Hi All

I've been working on the mast step and what a lovely little piece this is to make.  It's like making a miniature piece of furniture due to its many angles and precise joints.  I guess it was made that way due to the amount of stresses it must have received from the mast.

The step is made of two thickness materials.  The outer pieces are 6mm and the inner 5mm.

After sanding and milling the parts look like this

Here's the profile of the inner pieces which I cut to an angle of 7 degrees.  It then has a taper at the bottom so that it sits correctly on the keelson.

All assembled with the relevant nails.  I used 0.28mm carbon for the first time for the very small nails and I think they look alright.

    Finally fitted into the hull

The next job is to make the stern sleepers - Cheers Mark

Well, I've finished and placed the remaining eight 6 pounders on the quarter deck as well as the last eight 12 pounders on the gun deck. That completes chapter 10. Before I start chapter 11. I still have to go back and put on the gunport lids. I've been holding off on placing them until the last minute to lessen the chance of accidentally knocking them off. I can't wait any longer now.

Guys dont tell me this !!!  I am very concerned about the accuracy of my parts once I raise the frames on my LGV.  My frames and rising wood could have been much more accurate had I cut them out with my TAIG vs the Proxxon.

Nice technique Mark - Ill have to use this tip.
