Rich, I wouldn't glue the masts in. The shrouds and stays will hold them in place later and you can adjust the mast angles as you add them.

I also tend to rig with the masts installed. I do add all the blocks and other fittings to the masts, but put the shrouds on with the masts in place. It's your call though.

I received my copy and read through the entire book.  Its a just a great book and I have already picked up a few tricks from it.  There are quite a few nice techniques described in this book that will help you as a model builder construct fittings and ship's details that would be part of any Eighteenth Century vessel.  I highly recommend it.  Well worth a look!! even if you dont plan on building the Comet.

As promised, some shots of where I am with the planking. It is a bit rough but overall I think it is coming out OK.

Thank you Nenad. I have been really enjoying your Cutty Sark build.

Rich, you called it, man. For the most part, the planking has been going according to plan, but the two stealers at the stern just did not work out. I could not get the angles right without having to edge bend the plank at about bulkhead Q. I decided to just use slightly wider planks at the stern post and not drop two planks per side. Since these planks will all be under cooper plates, I am not too concerned. I think I should have gone with three planks going to two instead of two to one, but I am not even sure if that would have worked. More pictures to come.

Slow forward to mooring pipes - outside look. After half a hour sniffing through home, garage and shipyard, and after some experiments, I was not much smarter...what to use ... elypse shape is significant ... the smartest approach I can get is to reply technique I used for portholes ( windows)

And here is first one, three more to go

    Not bad

BTW ... glasses for windows ... is there any sense when inside diameter is aobut 1,5-2 mm ?

In an attempt to address the poor picture quality above,I post a better quality example .Half of the nails fitted in one grating and trimmed flush(although the keen eyed will note I have one to redo as the copper was not inserted properly and dislodged whilst trimming).I have ordered some liver of sulphur gel,but I am sat on the fence as to whether to use it on these fixings.

    Kind Regards

Got some more planking done over the last couple of days. It takes me about 2 hours to cut and install 4 planks, which is about the time I have each evening during the week. I have just enough binder clip clamps to install 4 planks.

These screw in clamps really help at the ends where the filler blocks are, especially since this is where the planks are the most curved.

    Some photo etched brass parts:

I organized the blocks, deadeyes, and bulls eyes in these small containers:

For the wood strips, I used these plastic golf bag tubes that I got from my father. I had originally planned to use these to organize all the extra wood strips I had in the workshop, but I had to go to something that could handle more strips, which you can see in the picture after this one. I was pretty amazed that the strips just in this kit filled up these tubes.

What I use now to organize my wood supply in the shop:
