Just had a reply from John at Caldercraft. He says he is not aware of any problems with customers & I am very busy & got a lot of spam emails recently & genuine emails end up in the spam folder,he says it would help if a subject matter was put in the email. If there is a problem he will do his best to sort it out. Hope this helps, please do not "Shoot the messenger"! All the best Geoff

there's no real answer to this one, I think this way. Take a 1" diameter treenail, reduce it to 1/64", (a common model shipbuilding scale) & then ask yourself "Is it really worth it"? The other side of the coin is that some models look spectacular with a treenailed deck , or hull. It's all down to personal taste really. Hope that helps, a bit!

thought you might like to know that I have just sent a message to John Wright at Caldercraft/ JoTiKa regarding some of our members difficulties. I have known John for many years & I told him I am personally concerned over this.I hope I haven't overstepped the mark, but it may do some good . I will let you all know when I get a reply. I have never had a problem with Caldercraft/JoTiKa over many years dealing with them. All I can suggest is call them. I know it's a pain but they are very busy people. If you get to talk to John Wright tell him Geoff said to get your finger out & send my missing part. If he doesn't I will go round there & "Sort him out"! All the best.Geoff

Caldercrafts Snake - Register For Updates?
geoff replied to Kitzilla's topic in Wood ship model kits
I'm surprised to see that you have problems over missing parts from Caldercraft. I had a small ply sheet missing from my Supply kit. I phoned John Wright & he put it in the post next day.I have been buying kits from them for 20 + years, R/C & static & never had a problem. All the best, Geoff -

CA glue question
geoff replied to MikeB4's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
I only use CA glue nowadays for stiffening the end 10mm of thread to make it easier to pass through blocks etc.. -
I came across a website called "Bestship models .com" recently. Being interested in the Endeavour I ordered a set of plans at a cost of $23.50- £14.53 from them. This was on 17th August. As I had not heared from them by 30th August I sent them an Email asking when I could expect the plans to be delivered. I still hadn't heared from them by 5th September & Emailed again . I am still waiting for a reply. Am I being impatient or does anyone have any information on this company? Any help much appreciated. Geoff

I would think that wax attracts dust unless the model is in a case? I use PVA applied with my finger & thumb ,it tends to remove some twists as well. Geoff

I saw it as 150 issues @ £5.99 each + binders etc. = £900.00 + 3 years to complete? WOW!!! Geoff Oh yes one more thing, did I see MDF in the TV Ad?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
