Lou, a typical weekend in the Valley in March (well, pre-Climate Change at least) - a gathering of friends on the ice for some culinary delights and a bit of sailing with the fleet.

Really looking nice - love the pin up 👍 I have the Tamiya P-47D kit and am inspired to get similar nose art.
With the Future, did you apply it over the whole model or just where the decals went? Not sure if you are weathering or not, but in your experience, is it worth applying a gloss finish before using washes, etc.? I think I’ve seen folks use the Tamiya panel line washes and oil paints over a gloss finish, yet it seems to me that one could use the Vallejo washes right over a painted surface without a gloss finish.
Don't mean to interrupt your build log with the question. I’m near the point of decaling and weathering a couple 1/72 planes and am not quite sure I understand what is typically done.

Well I am laying down more future to the whole fuse today.I tried some Tamy Wash again down to the lacquer silver and stopped in one little spot again I am leaving it looks convincing but I want to control that effect.I can only figure the those areas did not have enough gloss and was eating the enamel's.I think also I am going to make a run with some burnt umber oils and thinner do not want any catastrophe's at this point of the build. So,I move on to the main gear and wheels I guess and some paint to the wings. The L/nacelle the rear engine mount was drilled for a tube that may hook up to Tamy electric motors then a set of Potentiometers one for each motor. If I feel so inclined to take this route then this puts a whole nother build into play a dio to which I found these today https://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-Models-32001-1-32-B-25-Mitchell-Crew/383418840904?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D225086%26meid%3Dc9ddb42c2f0e4fc394f7c2b5a1eaf5e2%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D383418841324%26itm%3D383418840904%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A1573c3ed-599c-11ea-b52a-74dbd180a963|parentrq%3A883e4eea1700aadad8a1cf5cfff65036|iid%3A1 I don't know been a long build and aching to join a GB on another site just a 1/72 B-25 Airifx MKII Kevin

The paint racks came from a vendor on Etsy. He laser cuts MDF material and you assemble them yourself. Very simple and well fitting, cheap. They are made to fit the small Tamiya size bottles or you can buy them to fit the smaller Vallejo style bottles.
Here, I've attached the wings to the fuselage and am slowly adding the necessary parts so that I can begin painting the model. Soon.

That’s a really good deal. These books are an amazing resource on how-to’s even if you aren’t building a Swan class. I’d jump all over this if I didn’t already have the set.

Jack something I just threw together one day 3/8" dowels pinned by 1/8" with the bases run over the sander for an incline to slip in the holes easier. The base I biscuit-ed together with all the scrap wood I have it only cost an hour maybe.
Mike I apply to the whole model lay the decals and then apply just to the decal area to seal them.As to weathering I sprayed parts of the fuse with the same color I used for the fabric pieces on the tail lightly here and there and then applied the pastels pretty strong on upper areas exposed to the sun knowing the future will wash out most of it.The tamiya panels wash I read actually says not to apply to enamels so a buffer of type needs to be applied so I went Future but then they say to clean with XF-20 thinner the same thing I clean my airbrush with?I tried it and I hit the duraluminum underneath not bad looks real but I think I am going back to alcohol.I use to make my own washes if enamel gloss water based/acrylic was used or if Future my preferred then an enamel wash.I am going to play with this Tamiya a bit more but I might revert to my old ways. Landlubber Mike reacted to Justin P. in Airbrushing without external exhaust
Ill weigh-in as someone who uses airbrush techniques in my work all the time. During a recent studio renovation we had our university Environmental Health and Safety come do a instrument based analysis of our use of hobby-grade airbrush using solvent based, water based and lacquer based materials. We DO NOT use a spray booth. Our EH&S people found that the level of airborne particulates and fume exposure were below the minimum threshold to require any more PPE (personal protective equipment) than Goggles and an N-95 rated respirator (with a good seal; i.e no beard). This was important as anything more than that would have required a higher degree of PPE and thus medical clearance to wear. To be clear they tested us during a typical use scenario of up to 30 minutes of continual spraying in a confined space (approximately 14 x 20' room) using hobby-grade equipment.
Most of the advice here meets the recommendation that you have good airflow (at least a fan) and lung protection (essential). The spray both really only protects your working areas from over-spray. For you bearded guys... the straight forward opinion we received was that your beard basically ruins the effectiveness of the N-95 mask, and you should consider something more substantial.

Finished
Windshield got a little messy - fell out twice on me - used Gator Grip Acrylic glue first time - 2nd time use G-S Hypo Cement - smudged it a bit putting it back in. Otherwise all came out okay - applied two coats of Pledge floor wax over the acrylic paint body before gluing on the chrome fiddly bits.
Now to shrink the kids and take a ride in the Countryside

Landlubber Mike reacted to Old Collingwood in ICM 1/48 Spitfire MkIX Scrapped.
I have decided to start this along with my Mossie kit, as there will be times when I can not get the spraying done outside due to the weather, so it gives me things to get on with.
I won this in ebay for a knock down price - it is an open box but all bags are sealed, the ICM version of the Spit IX is renowned for being the most accurate model of a Spit in this scale, I will build her more or less straight out the box as I understand the cockpit and parts are very very good.
So to start with - here's the top box art and quick look at the bag contents.
I do apologize I put the complete wrong box pic up - how I dont know - This is the Right One.
OC.

Thanks Gentlemen(a term used loosely) for all the likes and looking in got some color added and a few coats of future. The second pic you can see that the fabric colored pieces were painted in a faded batch of OD with some sprayed here and there about the fuse you may have to expand the pics to see the effect.I may try to lay the decals for the fuse tomorrow night and future on Thursday then a flat.
