  1. sure would be wonderful to know if this masterpiece will progress........
  2. oops...i stand corrected ....i had been looking at the kits from china, and got mixed up.......thanks.......
  3. one thing i may add....i'm using basswood which i have left over from other kits, but i don't like having to stain wood or use minwax polyshades....it is so hard to get an even color....i even tried pre stain......so i just have to accept the way they came out i can't afford to buy nice hardwoods........all together i think they'll end up lookiong ok.......
  4. very kind steven......got the messy dirty gluey stinky stuff done....all the finishing should be relaxing work......that is until i start the trireme after finishing these.......will use plans from the trireme trust if i can figure them out.......so that's still up in the air.......
  5. added some decoration to the phoenician, and have made the storage seats for the viking....hmmmm...should have painted the innards of the roman flat black....pretty soon i have to figure out rigging which will likely result i my pulling out the remaining hairs on the top of my head......there's gonna be a lot of mickey mousing
  6. use the firs two...the little one is only 3/4'' wide or under 10mm....quite handy for small models ...cheers....vic
  7. just completed the planking on the viking ship.....very difficult to figure out how to fit the planks evenly ...i couldn't....but i don't think i gave it enough pre-measuring time..hope you can do better....lots and lots of measuring before gluing....get lots of tiny clamps like the miniature ones in the stationery store....and make sure you temporarily reinforce the first v shaped bulkhead at the stern....it will break very easily.......good luck
  8. what happened to the viking ship??

  9. gads....this build is way beyond my ability or patience 😲....super...........
  10. gosh ...lucky you.....we use a wood stove and a pellet stove, not to mention that i do my building in the house...haha...actually, for small stuff, in the living room so no case is no option😀......she's just soooo tolerant .....cheers.....vc
  11. yes yes super dave.....but you gotta have a case.....i made one where the end acrylic slides up for easy access....works great....you could use glass if weight is not a problem
  12. made some stands, and the greek penteconter hull mostly complete....ha...noticed i did the stitching incorrectly on the egyptian hull...should have been horizontal instead of vertical...c'est la vie.... will finish the hulls of the roman and viking before doing the finishing on all the ships....and then i'll think about the trireme..... how about this fellow Lodewijk Crijns from holland who sent me some info....quite impressive ....scroll down to find ship photos..... http://bennosfiguresforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=18962&start=140
  13. hmmmmmm......it's amazing how many people start builds, then disappear without an explanation or a good bye....
  14. yes...that's fantastic isn't it......hard to see how the thing can stay upright as the hull below the waterline is so narrow from what i've seen in some plans....
  15. oh....only 15-18 inches......probably should have all been the same scale, but i figured that would be guess work, so i didn't bother.....they hopefully will all be in the same case, like a study of styles.......and there's still a viking to come....and who knows...i might go for a trireme too haha...vic
  16. wow....that's an amazing source of info.......thanks.....will have to share.....cheers, vic
  17. thanks...strange...it works now, but seemed to be jammed before...
  18. haha....ok, ya got me.....will just present as i am from now on... looks like it's gonna be difficult to know how to secure the rigging....what kind of bits etc....will just have to fake it .oh....how does one delete the smileys?.....
  19. kind of you steven.....so much guesswork....using your links...very helpful !!....and i'll probably keep apologizing for the mediocre workmanship, but i want to get these done quickly.... vic
  20. nice find....thank you.....................vic
  21. and yes bob.....a kit is available from china.....
  22. hmmmm...i didn't expect a response here so quickly....i'll have to check all that out....thanks so much for the info....very hard to find it seems .....gads, i'm impressed with your work steven.....way way beyond me!!.......mine will just be rough representations to be placed together in a case........mucho!....vic
