Hello fellow members
Have been off the air for over 12 months due to a broken wrist and overseas traveling
Have working on my rigging for the last 2 weeks.
It has to be the hardest part of ship building in my book

I have done some extra things and using shizkabaab sticks for the handrails and fixing them to the wall with twisted wire.
The washed walls have come up better than my expectations.
I have now stuck down the two parts to the deck and thanks for the warning on the holes not matching

Nice job on the black wash on the walls. Wish I had done that. Be careful when adding these structures onto the deck as the locating tabs are out.
I cut my tabs off and made it much more easy. Good work.

Thanks to Jaun Schmitz for his videos on you tube.
He has already given me extra ideas i.e. The hand rails.

I have been away from the build logs for a while. Had to have some work done to the old ticker but I am back to the workshop. Decided to try a model of a ship that lacks sails. Spent a little time looking at kits and build logs on this site and decided that King of the Mississippi looked interesting and a fun build. So I invested a few bucks and purchased the kit.
The first step, of course, is the hull. I was impressed with the fit of the die-cut pieces. This was one of the easiest hulls to build. First step was gluing the keel and formers to a flat bottom. Next came some thin plywood sides (which took a little care in bending) followed by planking with thin walnut strips.

This model is not painted. When complete, most of the model will be natural wood. When I completed planking the hull with the thin walnut strips; I felt that the look of the unfinished planks was dull and not visually exciting. I decided to stain the planks darker and apply a glossy polyurethane finish. I used a dark walnut stain and it did come out a little darker than I anticipated but I still think it is better than the unfinished look. What do you think?
I added the nails and deemed the hull complete enough to move onto the main deck.

Snoepert got a reaction from Papa in Sovereign of the Seas by Snoepert - De Agostini
Hi ,
This is my first attempt to show my progress on the forum. Excuse me if it is a little grey.
First off I am delighted with the kit supplied by De Agostini in magazine form although it is a bit annoying that we must wait for the monthly delivery.
I have built thee RED BARON in the same manner and it came out pretty good.
The SOS is the first undertaking of this scale and I have built two previous wooden kits: One from Holand and it was a BOTTER boat and the other is the PORT JACKSON supplied by Modellers Shipyard.
I would like at this stage to sincerely thank Fifthace and Tomick at this stage for the advice on many aspects of the build, I have certainly become the wiser after reading their notes and photo's
I am posting the photos of the work I have carried out so far on the SOS for any comments or suggestions.
Till the next post,
Snoepert
