Hi Michael, glad your here. I haven't done much study of samurai ships, so this is kind of making do more study of the subject. Of course, this is basically a ship on the large end most ships of this type didn't have the elaborate castle structure.
So, was your dad at the Marine Corps Air Station there by any chance?
Well, I've had to take some time away from model building to deal with family matters, but I'm starting up again this week, so stay tuned.

By the way, over the holidays, I created two Youtube video slide shows.
These are two scratch builds, the Hozugawa Ayubune and the Himi Tenmasen. Both small boats in 1/10 scale. These are based on projects by boatbuilder Douglas Brooks, and in many ways, they are tributes to him and his teachers.
The Hozugawa Ayubune is a small river fishing boat used on the Hozu river, northwest of Kyoto. The Himi Tenmasen is a general purpose coastal workboat from Toyama prefecture on the Japan Sea coast.

If you enjoy them, please give them a like!
In the meantime, I also was asked about putting together all the wasen models, or traditional Japanese boat models, that I've completed. A couple that you may be aware of aren't on here yet, as they aren't technically complete. But, if you want to see everying in one shot, you can find them here: https://wasenmodeler.com/wasen-mokei/

Jack12477 reacted to archjofo in La Créole 1827 by archjofo - Scale 1/48 - French corvette
Hello,
In the meantime, a fellow modeler Eberhard @wefalck directed me to a publication on how large the flags and pennants were.
Here I show excerpts of this book - LE GRAS, M.A.: Album des pavillons, guidons, flammmes de toutes les puissances maritimes - Paris 1858:
Meanwhile, with the help of Eberhard @wefalck I was able to clarify one thing, what the column marked with a question mark means. This means the fabric web width, which was accordingly 50 cm. Thus, after correctly classifying the type of ship, the sizes of the flags and pennants can be determined.
Accordingly, the large pennant of the La Creole was 16 m long and the
width was 15 cm.
The pennant/tricolore was divided as follows:
Starting at the masthead 20% blue, 20% white and 60% of the length waving red.

Gary: your sopwith build inspired me to pick up a couple of these small kits I found on sale, to fill in the gaps this winter after the checkered flag drops on my Fiat build!

Jack12477 reacted to Tim Moore in Fiat 806 Grand Prix by Tim Moore - FINISHED - Italeri - 1:12
Hi Mark - I wish! It is mostly plastic, and rubber, tubing etc. for some components, but some of the assembly is with fine screws, nuts and bolts. The chassis was basically put together with about 8 screws rather than any glue. It’s a big kit so lots of parts.

Looking sweet - nicely detailed - nice and simple design that just works - some nice RC kits of them also - but that's a really deep rabbit hole.

And Happy New Years to you too Brother... I never let it go, just had the world falling in on me for a while... Have decided that I need to take some time for myself if I don't I will get lost in everyone else's world...
This is a good respite... Doing something useful for a change... Going slow, plugging away, enjoying a leisurely stroll down the creation path... A relaxing journey....
Lets take a walk.... {smile}

Fantastic build, so love these early planes and seeing them at Airshows so brings home how delicate they were.

I plan on doing a summary log once I have some of the major elements started. Right now I’m waiting on a magnifier light delivery - there are some incredibly small screws etc that I think would be difficult to work with unaided.

Jack12477 reacted to Baker in M29 Weasel family 1/72 (scratch) by Backer Finished
Thank you, Alan.
Next things made are the backrests of the seats and the shielding over the exhaust.
The shielding is made of brass mesh (the mesh comes from a filter)
The backrests are made of thin lead foil (this folds easier than styrene)
Current status
Thanks for following.

Ha! I have a story about Australian cedar -- the flooring in our last house was made entirely from it. It's beautiful wood, but it had a lot of knots in it -- like a lot of knots! Unfortunately for those of us of a certain age, with the degraded eyesight that comes with it, and who happen to live in the American South, many of those knots were just the right size, shape, and color to imitate nice, plump cockroaches. I never quite got used to it -- especially since real cockroaches would occasionally turn up to reinforce the similarity.

A little update on my current situation, as a lot of you know I have finally found a new place to live and it is about 800 metres from the largest salt water lake in Aus.
My modelling progress has been slow but the "Miss Caroline" model suffered a little damage in transit with the turnbuckles for the stay and stb shroud letting go. This has now been repaired and she is as good as new. No pics because you've seen it.
The full size "Miss Caroline also suffered a little damage during transit in the form of a rope fender which is secured between the mast and stern sheets in transit somehow bailed on its duty allowing the mast and wire rope ends to damage the stern sheet planks. I have since sanded that out and re-oiled the affected timber, again no pics because it's not unlike what you've already seen.
Now onto the new stuff, I joined the Lake Macquarie Classic Boat Association and along with a weekly rowing session in an Oughtred designed "St Ayles Skiff" I am taking part in the restoration of an old wooden speed boat, lapstrake hull, copper nailed and roved and an old Ford V8 to go into her. I've been working on the laid deck consisting of Australian Cedar with Yellow Cedar inlay strips and it's something I've wanted to do for years so I'm really enjoying this little group. I'll make some progress on Royal Caroline in due course.

For grip, the mass is insufficient to store any heat whatsoever so in a very hot environment they would radiate heat quickly...
Compressed air picks up heat when it is compressed as does most compressed gases... Allowed to normalize temp in the surrounding environment, its very temperature stable.... although a quick de-pressurization would condense any water in the air.... Pressure drops gasses get colder... Pressure rises, gasses get warmer...
