Maybe so Denis, but not committable. If all it takes to keep you happy is a beat up hair net then you are pretty harmless to yourself and others.................. OOOhh a box of clothespins!!!!

thanks for the suggestion Pat.......yes,,,,exactly! I need to lose the stiffness......when laying on the deck, it needs to fall into a pile on the deck, and not look poofy.....it a bit hard to describe. it can't be too perfect. lets put on our imagination glasses for a moment, I have this to show you. I brought home the hair net I got off the trailer floor. now....this thing has been walked on.....rolled over......and probably exposed to the weather, so it's pretty beat up. but it is still intact for the most part. there is no shine to this netting........it looks worn.......there are some small holes {nothing major}, and it is not stiff. think of how this would look lying on the deck.
these holes are much smaller, than the ones I bought. I even like the head band that goes around the edge. I imagined it also attached to a boom, with something inside to balloon it out. how limp it is and how it bunches.......imagine.......a grown man daydreaming over this. I am certifiable '''''oh, I gotta go! the nurse is calling me

Denis, if you are going to soak it try adding as little fabric conditioner; that may help if you are looking for a softer finish

Piet got a reaction from popeye the sailor in Fokker Dr.I by Mike Dowling - FINISHED - Artesania Latina
Yes Mike, just like the Camel with the exception to do the fuselage 3/4. Leave one side open, that'll give you enough viewing area for the entire inside.
The plane looks really nice.
Cheers,

Very interesting article here about the windmill at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia:

Some great videos of the same mill here with an article about its restoration:

Since I am not going to get the maritime plywood this weekend (Easter weekend) I made the hooks and eyelets so shutters can go on the window frames. I used 1 mm thick brass wire. The shutter design look so Dutch.
The doors have little knobs on them.
Also been going through my stash of hardwood picking out pieces for the various parts of the cap. So many odd sizes needed. The cap has about 20 pieces total

Cog, those are some cool pictures, thank you.
This thread is becoming very interesting with various pictures of different windmills and the parts that make one.
I appreciate all the input from everyone. I learn something every time
Again, thanks.

Thank you, druxey
This will not be known to many, but not all mills use cloth on all sails, some use wood instead. I know the one in Voorst on the Enkweg has it and the one in Klarenbeek, Molenweg - both near to where I live. Two other mills, just 6 miles further, which are almost identical, do not. It is not as one might expect period or region dependent.
A clear view of the construction:

# Cog: In de van Dale (dictionary)
wiek (de) 0.1 [molenwiek] sail, vane -> wing, sweep.
wiekslag: 0.1 wing-beat / -stroke.
I copied exactly out of the dictionary.
# Jan, nice windmill.

Yep, and those vanes are not at a constant angle.
btw translation is misleading: the sails (in dutch) refer to the cloth that is attached at low wind speed: how to translate, when sail is something different?

The sail is the complete arm: the vanes are the cross-slats.

I would think by using a mold, so it can dry in the propper shape
P.s. Any native English speaker: I thought it's the sails of the mill, not the vaines ... please correcty me if I'm wrong

No it is a 1:87 that is on the topshelf pf my cupboard even
aince 1991. Never had an idea of how to tacklethe problem of thr curvature of the vanes at this scale

Nice work, Mike. I'd vote for the half-and-half just because of the detail. But you're pilot or maybe squadron commander....

On the frame you can see the seams from the casting, I would clean them. And work first-class!

I know what you mean, I am surprised that I get away with what I do.
"Boys need there toys".
My vote is "not covered.
That is a lot of work to be covered forever.

That's one idea but the bank manager won't like it.

Piet reacted to RussR in Fokker Dr.I by Mike Dowling - FINISHED - Artesania Latina
That shouldn't be a problem, just do two of them. One covered and one not covered.

The magazines for the guns, the oil and fuel tanks are installed. The fuel tank was huge struggle as in order to fit it I had to file away quite two quite big areas on the underside to accommodate the legs on the firewall mount. I got there in the end. The firewall is held on by four 0.5mm bolts theoretically with nuts on. There is no way on this planet I could get the nuts on so I just had to cheat and glue them. They would be very hard to see anyway.
Basically the fuselage is now done except for 'wood' panels to go on the sides - they are made of metal but have to be disguised as wood. This depends on whether I cover half or not which is where I need your help viewers !
Otherwise the next stage is to start on the lower wing.
