I must have caught a cold yesterday, today headaches and running nose and feeling groggy, so not in the mood to do rigging in the moment.
Instead i bolted some of the boats rudder gudgeons, which I did not do to date, because only glued on.........
Also some impressions (close ups) of the working deck. This will be tidied up as good as possible later on

here is the view to und under forecastle, on the stove and distille, where the waterbarrel takes the distillate, as well as front staircase to deck below and its railings, and stairs from gundeck to forecastle. The bits take the anchor cable. The starboard side anchor cable is tied to the messenger in regular spaces

here the messenger cable runs by past the deck ladders and disappears under the QD where it is slung around the capstan in five windings

Proof of life... it ain't dead yet...

The main wale needs sanding as does the next stake down (up in the photo) but I'll hold off until I get more strakes done towards the keel.

Planking on the "gun port stripe" (such that it is) is done.   I'm still sanding and need to finish opening all the ports and get them shaped.

The bottom photo shows in blue what will be ebony..

    Toni,

Thanks for the heads up! I made a test section of planking with the edge's marked with Sharpie and applied some Minwax to it. I don't see any bleeding but I'll keep an eye on it to see if it bleeds over time. Do you have a suggestion for a different method? When I get to the upper deck I'll be more careful.

    Hi Brian,

I am about to work on the stern and have been searching to resolve the detail, particularly at the top, around the curved element.

There seem to be several interpretations starting with the diagram that you have attached to your stern frames. This looks like it is out of the Lavery & Hudson book and I have been using this as well. I have been a bit confused about what is solid and what is open.

Searching through L & H I have found these illustrations which seem to shed some light:

The bottom pic looks closer to the drawing as it includes the "hooked" cut-outs near the ends. The other pic deletes these all together.

Other kits/models have a range of layouts:

The film replica isn't really helpful although the cut-outs at the sides may be relevant.

I will be going with the lower of the 2 pics from L & H.

    Cheers,

    David.

thanks Mobbsie.......dry fits are one thing.......but when everything is cemented in place,  it shows major progress    I'm still amazed with how she's shaping up.  to think that this build comes from a simple observation I made,  when I built the Boulogne hull.   I didn't think it would look as good,  particularly with the stern being tapered like it is.  looking at her now,  it's hardly noticeable.  yepper......I'm pleased with it.....what pleases me more is that others are enjoying it as well

thanks Bob......I'm probably not going to go much further with the pilot house.......a few more thing perhaps.   I'm chomp'in at the bit to get the roof on there!   much more to go yet!    thank you my friend!

thanks also to everyone who hit the like button...I gotta get busy now and make more parts to put on her!

    Hi everyone

Many thanks for all your comments and likes. I can't tell you how much I appreciate them.

Tonght, I added more small details to Rainbow's forward cabins, such as the overhead lockers and pillows on the bunk beds. Amidships, in the seating area across from the galley, I added the table that the crew would rest at with a tote of rum.

I also started on the main saloon dining table which sits in the saloon. Later on, I'll add the saloon chairs to accompany the table.

    Hope you enjoy these photos.

    All the best, folks.

    Cheers

    Patrick

Thanks for the comments Christian, Carl, Ed, Maury, Alex, Mike and Greg. Much appreciated as always.

    Jib Net

This is one of the fiddliest parts to make on the whole ship. It took me 2 1/2 days.

It starts by making the two spreaders from English Box. Then the two Horses were threaded through the holes in each end of the spreaders and an eye seized into the inboard end of each horse :

To tie the netting together I constructed a simple Jig :

Five double lengths of the netting were hitched around one spreader :

Then the tedious work of tying together every 2nd pair of the longitudinal netting began. The first couple of rows didn't turn out too well under magnification, but look OK to the eye :

Two days later (I had to wait for the glue to dry on the seizings before continuing on the next row) the second spreader was hitched to the free end :

The net fitted to the bowsprit. The forward ends of the horses attach to the eyebolts in the sides of the cap :

The aft ends of the horses are attached via lanyards to an eyebolt in each knighthead :

The last few days I worked on the upperstructure of the ship and the bridge. I used only polystyrene and glue. I am using lesser CA-glue these day but use super thin ps-glue. It glues fast and strong but you have the possibility to position the pieces you want to glue.

Here are promised photos of patinated hull.
I used aniline water colors and spread it simply by finger ( so it was very hard for me to make some photos of progress )
It took me 15 minutes. Ten I coated hull by colorless matt paint.
