chborgm got a reaction from coxswain in Portland by chborgm - FINISHED - BlueJacket Shipcrafters
I have the hull in fairly good shape. I want to add the sponsons before I do the final shaping. Before that I am going to do the "deck mock up".
This puts all the decks temporarily together with wood screws, so that you get a real feel for how things line up and how they should be assembled. This is a highly recommended step in the instructions.

chborgm got a reaction from hexnut in Portland by chborgm - FINISHED - BlueJacket Shipcrafters
While waiting for my kit to arrive I was looking for pictures of the Portland. I found that my friend has a painting that has been in his family for over 100 years. I have included some photos of the Portland lighthouse with the Portland in the background

I thought that did, there was just an extra cost. If they don't you ought to think about Model Shipways Chaperon. I really enjoyed building it. I did not do a build log on it though.

Growing up in Pittsburgh I feel in love with the steam driven paddel-wheelers, (that gives away my age).
I have built the Chaperon, and have decided to take on the Portland. I just ordered the kit, and will keep you posted.

chborgm got a reaction from GuntherMT in Continental Gunboat PHILADELPHIA by Chuck Seiler - Model Shipways - 1:24 Scale - Enhanced
I the time between posts I decided to do what Dave did. I had to do some filll pieces in because I had put in some supports for the planking not know they would be exposed.

In the kit there is a gap at the bow where the caps stop about a half inch from the bow. this leaves the frame and inards exposed. How did you handle this.

I am build this model, but nowhere near Augi's work. I do have a question about the ships design. Why is the windless so far to the rear. I don't see how the ropes could lead to the catheads.

I agree I have learned more from this forum than I have in the 20 + years of model building.
Thanks for all your effort.

No. I only found this site a couple months ago, and I was pretty well along at that time. When I start the Philly I'll do a log.

chborgm got a reaction from testazyk in San Felipe by testazyk - FINISHED - Panart - Scale 1:75 1690
the first is the picture of the stand, and second the Conferacy lying on it
I use a few loose pieces to prop it up in any attitude.
I have a rotaing universal stand but only use it in initial stages
