My method for threading line through holes in deadeyes and blocks is to put some CA glue on the end of the line, maybe about 1/4" worth. Then wipe it off of the line. Once the CA is dry, take a hobby knife and cut the CA soaked end on an angle. This hardened end is then threaded through the deadeye or block. Works every time for me.

Hi middlyjohn and welcome to Model Ship World. Sounds like you are off to a good start in building wooden ship models. There are three ship modeling clubs in the Chicago area. Two meet using Zoom, with one also having in person meetings. The other club meets in person only as the Club's meeting venue does not support Zoom.

Hello from the Chesapeake Bay area
Ryland Craze replied to SaltyScot's topic in New member Introductions
Welcome to Model Ship World. There is a wealth of maritime history around the Chesapeake Bay. For us ship modelers, there are several ship model clubs and maritime museums close to the Bay. -
Since the model will be painted, I would glue the piece back on that broke off or glue a piece of scrap wood on the edge. Once the glue is thoroughly dry, you can carefully sand it to match the unbroken side. This is what I like about working with wood.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
