Congratulations on finishing your first wooden ship model. You have done what a lot of first time ship modelers have not done and that is to complete the build. You faced many problems during the build, but you learned to overcome and work around the problems. I bet that there are a lot of builds that have wood inserted into gaps, wood filler added to spots and paint covering mistakes that you would never know about. The main thing is you did not give up and I applaud you for this. You have learned a lot and I look forward to seeing your next build as you will find an improvement in your skills.

Hi John and welcome to Model Ship World. I often hear of modelers looking for certain 3D printed figures for their models. A good source of some figures is Vanguard Models, whose owner is a member of this site. I believe there is a good market for 3D scale figures. -
Hi Wookie and welcome to Model Ship World. The Lowell Grand Banks Dory is an excellent kit to start learning the skills necessary to build wooden ship models. There are many build logs on this site for that kit. You have gotten off to a good start and you definitely want to bevel where the planks lie against the frames and the bottom. Keep up the good work.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
