  1. With the outer and inner trim added along with the stern frames and chine log, the seats can be fitted. Russ
  2. Once the hull is planked, it comes off the jig and the real fun part begins. Russ
  3. I am in the process of building a series of large scale skiff models for some friends. I thought I would share with you the first one. This is a very simple model, somewhat similar to the smaller 1/24 scale skiffs I have built for the past several years. This skiff design is compilation of my skiff research from about 15 years ago. One really neat feature is I can build several skiffs off the same design and then fit and finish them in different ways. No two can or will be alike. Hope you find this interesting. Russ
  4. Merchant vessels, mid 19th century through the early 20th century, smaller vessels in larger scales with plenty of detail. Having researched such vessels from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I can tell you that there are plans out there and large untapped archival sources to supplement plans and builder's models from all parts of the US coastline. The material is there and such vessels would be good in POB for beginner to intermediate skilled modelers. Russ
  5. Kenneth: It was good to see you and everyone else at the wooden boat show. There was a wealth of Biloxi history walking around the pier this past weekend. Thanks for the kind words about the schooner. I really appreciate it. Russ
  6. I would email them and ask. Russ
  7. Those model images were most likely from the American Marine Model Gallery. Russ
  8. Ken: The belaying pins came out quite well. The heads are usually the problem as they tend to wind up out of scale. Yours came out much better than that. It is common to have a good deal of rejects in this process. Good work. Russ
  9. You do not have a Hobby Lobby or Michaels in the general area? I raid my local Hobby Lobby for basswood strips regularly. Russ
  10. I think the wood choices are good. The finish will tell the tale. I am sure everything will "pop" and you will be very pleased. Russ
  11. I use artist's acrylics on my models and they do a pretty good job. My painting skills are not the best, so that is generally where I run into trouble. Russ
  12. Pat: Thanks. I really wish I could take credit for those lines. However, the lines are based on the appearance and measurements of actual schooners, particularly those built by Martin Fountain Sr., who lived and worked in this area from 1855-1938. He was a great boat builder and one of the deans of Biloxi boat building. Russ
  13. This is a photograph of a Biloxi catboat that was recently refinished. Check out the bottom color. This is not meant to take away from or hi jack your build log. Russ
  14. Nice paint job. I especially like the red on the bottom of the hull. That darker shade is actually quite realistic. Russ
  15. Here are some progress photos that show the overall model as it sits today. Russ
  16. Your hull looks really good. Nice work on fairing the framing. The finish is very eye catching. Nicely done. Russ
  17. Ian: Great looking model. I love large scale models of small boats. This is a good looking kit and your sprung deck planking came out wonderfully. Russ
  18. The hull looks very good so far. Nicely assembled and clean lines. Great work. Russ
