    update-
Made the curved ladders & installed them along with the gratings. Also made the benches just below the poop deck. I didn`t have any figures to put under the shelf between the 2 lower companionways so I just used some extra railing stanchions that I had. Thanks for the looks & likes.

A very small update, but probably a major milestone achieved for me
The picture shows the forward grating section sized, however the rebates for the anchor ropes need cleaning up after installing all the fastenings. The eagle eyed(enlarging pic essential) will notice I have installed one line of the double nailing.I have found it necessary to install a pair at the same time due to the limit of how small a droplet of cyano I can apply. The holes are 0.3mm apart.I have decided to sand the radius profile to the top rather than risk damaging what amounts to about twenty hours work so far!!This will be done when the grating has been fitted with the combing. The nailing should become more visible then as there are cyano deposits on the surface at the moment.

    Kind Regards

    Hi John
I can see the reason for despair, however I think there is no need to start again completely.I think this has happened due to the method of frame support shown in post 33.Supporting the frames at the bottom is OK provided the frames are exactly the correct shape and the middle of the frame tops are checked to be running true with a level, square or string line to the centreline.
I would debond the frames from forecastle back.Replace the assembly in the jig and add some tall supports to keel and prow that extend up above the highest frame.Adding temporary braces across the tops of the frames allows you to mark centrelines on.A length of cotton between the jig uprights front and rear can then be used to check these centrelines are infact plumb to the keel.
By all means refit in the jig and check before a stripdown, but I feel the sternpost is leaning the wrong way for this to be a simple case of 'spring' upon removal from the jig.
I wish you the best of luck with resolving this problem, but you are not alone, there are many members here to help you through this.

    Kind Regards

Nigel - cheers buddy, nothing compared to yours but I'm happy.

Planking has proceeded at a snails pace, but after much deliberation I figured out the round stern, no-where near as neat as Ray's and keep reminding myself that this will all turn out fine with a little sandpaper and filler.  My focus was primarily on ensuring that the planking terminated properly at the transom and sternpost.  Rabbets were cut into the boxwood for first and placeholder for the 2nd planking.  Man oh man!! -  what an absolute pleasure working with boxwood is, so easy to cut and get nice clean edges.

The plank next to the stern post was positioned first to lie correctly, then work downwards to the previously planked section which results in a few odd shaped planks and stealers.  I can see how spiling would be a much more logical, though time consuming, approach.  You can see an error not yet corrected where I thought I needed a stealer when in fact a full plank would have worked best, it was already glued so will be easier just to add a sliver.  Also changed my plan for how the planks terminate so it looks a little odd right now, should be just fine once sanded to shape and hopefully will be a nice solid base for the second planking in this tricky area.  Clearly I'm a bit of a slob when it comes to planking

That is some exceptionally neat deck planking Jason!!!!!!!!!   I find it helpful to look at a Navy board model of the subject. The visible stern timbers help you visualise the shape better. However the dockyard model of Diana ( nice stern pic by Sjors in his thread on the Chatham historic Dockyard) is fully planked so not much help I am afraid.

    Hi

I would start by cutting the keel between each frame and then debonding the keel section from the frames one at a time.Make a new keel and a new lineup jig.

You need one that will have a center bar going in line with the keel about deck level so that you can center up each frame on center to the keel up at the deck level. At the keel you can center with the notch that is in the frames, but you could have an outer bar on each side (making sure that they are equal distance from the centerline) and have them out from the frames,so that you can measure the gap between the frame and bar. Then you can adjust the frame until it is centered between the bar and equal distance on both sides.

Bottom line is that you need to be able to measure the frame to the keel at the top and bottom, and make sure that they are equal distance to the center. You can not have a tight enough joint at the keel that insures that the frame will be centered at the top. You have already proven that with your frames and keel now.

It's a lesson that all of us go thruat least you had not put your whales on or planking or deck.

Rigging has begun. I've always enjoyed rigging and it was nice to be doing some again (It's been over two years since I had last done any).

First, a few general matters. The standing rigging will all be Chuck's black line. I favor black for the deadeye lanyards and ratlines, as well. The arrangement and run of the lines is being taken from the rigging diagrams in AOTS Essex. The sizing of all of the lines is being taken from the proportional sizing data in Lees. Various details are also based on Lees. As I've done in the past, work on the standing rigging will begin on the lower mizzen and move forward.

Now, to the work done so far. I've completed the burton pendants, shrouds, sheer poles and stay on the lower mizzen mast. I used very small wooden eyes from MS for the pendant thimbles. The mouse on the stay is simplified by using a shaped wooden bead. I have not served any of the lines because of the small scale, and don't intend to. Crowsfeet and ratlines will be done after the main and fore pendants, shrouds and stays are done.

I apologize for the quality (or lack thereof) of the photos. I've never been good at photos of rigging and nothing seems to have changed. I'm now working on the lower main.

    Bob

I think you have pretty much hit the nail on the head there Geoff There wasn't and still isn't any clubs for modelers specialising in wooden period ships in the UK.We have always been second class to RC models ( although I should point out I do that as well). There were only two builders known to many,Keith Julier and Chris Watton.Kit makers were never bothered about how the shortcomings of their product, most were never finished.
Things have changed so much since I started and they are changing even faster now.Everyone is willing to share there techniques and we all benefit. No matter whether it is modelmaking or something else, being able to bounce ideas off people is far more productive than solitary head scratching
So my answer is no,I wouldn't have expected to have so many friends around the world to share ideas with, even more so,is probably about half I couldn't hold a conversation with, without the translator.
