I am currently decorating and between coats As the sun is shining,I thought I would take some pics of where the build is up to at the moment.No pics of the gratings yet as I will photograph these when I start building them up with their combings which will be in Ebony.
   I have fitted the deck clamps back to roughly amidships.They extend right up to the deck underside.This isn't historically correct,however it is my intention to cut a 3mm deep rebate to take the lodging knees.This creates a flat surface for the knees to abut to,rather than contending with the severe tumblehome at this point.When assembled,the finished appearance will be the same as if I had built it historically correct.The hooked scarph joints are clearly visible.Both these clamps and the scarphed spirketting will be fitted with copper fastenings 0.8mm diameter extending completely through the hull as it stands now.I am undecided as to whether to represent bolt heads on the deck clamp fixings to illustrate proud bolt heads.

Your build is coming on great Mark
Your plan regarding the stern should work OK,I would just leave a little 'meat' both sides for fairing.I have done similar on a few builds and built the stern up from 'fresh air' so to speak.I will be doing it again on Mordaunt as the kit lines end short of the original

Congrats Nigel, very clean work.

One thing that is sometimes forgotten and is not mentioned here,make sure you fit a condensate trap between the compressor and brush.depending on the temperatures in your workshop,condensation can collect in the compressors tank resulting in water droplets coming through the airbrush.They are cheap and worthwhile insurance.

just a quick update, I have started gluing frames on,  things are going ok but slow.  I am hoping to get all the frames glued on by next Saturday, then starts the fun of detailing the inside.

think i have finally finished the gun deck , No doubt there will be something to add later on but at present this is all i can think of ?
 

 
 A couple of things worth mentioning , the variation in deck color should have been corrected at the time ,and in hindsight should not have been left as is but i can,t bear the thought of ripping it up . To be honest it shows up more on the pic than in real life and i had thought that the next deck would have hidden it more ,but lesson learned for the upper deck .Pick your timber !!!!! the gratings are not to my liking , i cut the ply ones out and fitted new frames ,but when varnished some of  the ply went a lot darker than i thought , again a different aproach will be used on the top deck . I stuck a couple of barrels in , probably not in the proper place but thought they might add to the look ? I can,t imagine any circumstances in real life when cannons would be rigged like this but it keeps everything nice and tidy and anyway this ain,t real life !!  As you can see i have dry fitted the main deck and it needed a lot of trimming again in hindsight it should have been fitted earlier as per plans ,but i thought i was being clever leaving myself room to work at the cannons , It,s possible it will cause more problems when planking ,but time will tell , after all problems are for solving . As usual i will replace all the ply fittings on the main deck and dry fit as far in advance as possible.  I,m glad to finish the cannons ,those 2mm blocks can try your patience and although there are more to make for the top deck a break is welcome

The copper wire I am using comes with an invisible enamel coating,I believe it is intended for rewinding electric motors etc.The available selection of sizes is just massive and works out many times cheaper than buying wire intended for model use.
I am finding it helpful to mark lines of holes using Tamiya masking tape,then run along the edge marking each hole lightly with a sharp awl.This stops the drill wandering as very small inaccuracies show up,especially when you go down to the really small sizes.

Just a small update.I have finally succeeded with creating the grating fastenings.I have managed to set the mill to be able to drill TWO 0.18mm holes in the one mm square available in the grating joints.The consistency is a testimony to the accuracy of Proxxons MF70.Unfortunately due to the sizes involved it is a slow process.Any more than two rows of holes,my eyes go into meltdown,even with the optivisors.As a little relief,I am installing the copper 'treenails' in the gun deck.I haven't taken any pics,I will do so when the process is complete.Trying to photograph the gratings at least,without copper fastenings is a waste of time with my limited camera,the holes are barely visible to the naked eye.So if no more pics for a month or two,I am still working away,just driving myself insane drilling and filling with copper wire, several thousand holes

At the bow of the French corvette, a small seawater pump was installed. Through a water pipe with a suction sieve, water was pumped up.
In the area of the underwater hull 3 more suction sieve were installed.

This suction sieve I made out of brass sheet 0.3 mm.

Thank you very much indeed John for your kind words I am annoyed with myself for not keeping a backup of my pictures,however I don't think it will matter so much when I get the opportunity to move forward with this build.My original intention was to drop back onto this over Christmas,unfortunately jobs in the house and the fact I would like to finish Mordaunt's gundeck first may postpone things further.
