Angarfather got a reaction from Landlubber Mike in Pinco Genovese by Angarfather - FINISHED
Altough Gianna is a smal ship 110 blocks are needed.
I made the violin blocks konventionel from one piece of wood.
The others are glued up from layers of 1mm walnut stripes.
One of the ready single blockstripes
The result is a smal frame from walnut.
The slices for the smal blocks are made from 3mm soldering wire.
The slices for the other blocks are made from 4mm brass.
Milling the groove for the blockstrops
The results after some times of sanding

Hi Fam, first of all I beg your pardon: I forgot to answer you when you posted your message.
The answer is: as you can see on Table II of the Cygne plans by ANCRE, that you own, and also on Table IX the horizontal gunport sills seat parallel to the deck (Tab IX) but also to the external planking (Tab II). The vertical sills instead are perfectly parallel to the frames . . the result is a gunport not square shaped but rhomboidal . .
Hi Yves,
what you see now is only the first step to hide the wrong nail holes on the deck planking.
Unfortunately I need to pospone the other steps because I have still to take an important decision: shall I simulate the nails (or better the woodden caps) on the planks or not ? This is a lot of work and should be done now. This is also a critical decision because if I do this simulation I will have also to do the same externally and so and so. I'm not sure to enter in this escalation.
Anyway, if I'll decide to simulate the nails, I'll use the same method used here to hide the wrong holes. The only difference will be in the colour of the paint, most probably darker but not too much. Looking with a magnifying glass this method is very, very realistic . . and fast.
To conclude, thanks Fam and Yves for your comments, they are very useful to better discover the secrets of ship modelling. Jack.

Angarfather reacted to Cristiano in Venetian Polacre by Cristiano - FINISHED - XVIII century
First of all I want to thank my favourite "tool" (see first photo), which is of great help on saving time and on preserving my mind sanity...which can be loose sometimes rather fast when dealing with small objects!
the updates now will be make less frequently.
the reason is that I need to install I think almost all the remaining cannons, before proceeding with the main mast.
And since I hate to install them, I must do it when I am with the right mood.
And so the work will slow a bit.
Returning to the update:
I installed the supports for the service boat, which can be seen in another photo.
I placed the service boat on them, but just to show the overall view, since it is not yet been rebuild (it is the old boat, so it must be completely modified).
I added two more cannons to the ship.
10 done, 6 more to install....
Before next Christmas I think I will complete the "cannon chapter"...
I failed to shorten the cannon installing and preparing time: each cannon needs always more than two hours to be installed (including the gunport), so each time my patience is stretched to the limit....

Thanks all for your kind comments.
Nick, with diluted tung oil (applied sparingly ) it has no sheen and thats what I meant with dead flat. I have the mixture in a small jar and it will keep for at least 2 years, that is how long I kept is. Glue won't stick to well if the wood has been treated with tungoil or any other oil or wax based finish. So you'd better think ahead before applying it.
The fore mast step, this is a nice little 3D jig saw puzzle. I realised I had to reposition the two deck beams that incorporate the mast step to properly align with the mast. No big deal but I felt pretty dumb when I noticed my mistake. Most straight forward cuts were made on the table saw that acted as router. The rest was cut with a chisel.

Masts
The masts of a pinco are made from one treestem. One peace. Non problem to make this on the turninglathe.
The mastheads with the sheaveholes are quadrangle. This form can be sanded well on the millingmachine
drilling and milling the sheaveholes.
drilling in the holes for the fixingpoints of the cleats
Foremast
Mainmast

Hi,
one question. Is it ok to show how I make such little things like a ladder, or isn't it interesting? Things like this:
There are 6 little laders on pincos deck. Every with only to stairs. I think it's more easy to make this parts with a jig.
The laders in place
Another new little piece. The kabinedoor
This evening I thought how to make the cover of the hatchway on quarterdeck. The span width is only 1m /3,3". So I made the coverbeams like a roof.
The way: the parts after milling the covering of the hatch.
than sanding the "roofs"
I think that will be ok
Next step will be modelling the grasps - eybolds with rings -

Angarfather reacted to Leo-zd in Lady Nelson by Leo-zd - 1:119 - SMALL
This model has 10 3pounder but in scale 1:119 the that is about 15mm long *_+
Initially I had the idea to made sepatly the gun and the carriage but it was too small.
I used the drawings in download section and in made the DWG 3d drawing of the canon.
With created stl file I ordered the 3d print.
Fortunately that the company warned me about the problem of the resolution, as their minimum resolution is about 0,1 mm. On the cannon in perfect scale all the rings of reinforcement, crown, and in fact all details disappeared :/ , they made a test and that was useless
So I redraw all, and on the visualization seems that the rings and the terminal part of barrel is oversized too much but you will see on printed models that the aspect change.
Here is the the visualization and soon I will post also the pictures of printed cannons. Unfortunately in the meantime my photo camera died so the pictures are slightly late
