  1. Thanks for link, Matt! Sometimes I place in a bottle the casing of the ship without masts. And only then I set masts. In these cases I use the small metal dowel or simply small dimple in the deck. Best Regards! Igor.
  2. Artem Popov wrote the book about construction of models in a bottle, but almost all information is on this website. Best Regards! Igor.
  3. Hi Mike, I thank for a compliment, but actually I only study and I am still far from perfectly. Best Regards! Igor.
  4. Hi Carl and Mike, Perhaps it will be interesting to you to look at the website with the description of manufacturing techniques of the ships in a bottle - http://www.shipbottle.ru/english/mybook/ Best Regards! Igor.
  5. Hi Carl, I congratulate you on successful continuation of progress! It is very nice! I saw some sets for building of the ships in a bottle. They are Golden Yacht and Hannah from Amati and Nippon Maru, Santa Maria and Catalan Ship from Woody Joe. I met some more sets on the Internet, but they weren't pleasant to me at all. Besides, earlier some more sets were issued in Japan, such as Sir Winston Churchill, Santa Maria (old edition),Thermopylae, Cutty Sark, Golden Hind. Sets from Amati are convenient because that are delivered together with a bottle. But their masts, yards and gafel leave much to be desired. It can be corrected if on a metal mast to paste on the one hand a thin interline, then to drill bores, and then to paste a thin interline on the other hand. Then can give easily the mast or the yard round form and to paint it. As simpler option - you can make masts and yards of a bamboo toothpick, but it is previously necessary to drill bores. Best Regards! Igor.
  6. Hi avsjerome2003, Many thanks for compliments! Yes, my eyes this my weak place for quite some time now too. I use glasses and sometimes a head holder with magnifying glasses now. Best Regards! Igor.
  7. At first I tried to use a file for giving of an external form, but it was too rough tool. Easy the touches of a thin edge of a scalpel allows to make a delicate work. Best Regards! Igor.
  8. Unfortunately, I have no tool for such precisely measurement of the sizes. Initial diameter of a toothpick of about 2 mm, i.e. diameter of a finished product turned out about 1,7-1,8 mm. Height is about 2,5-3,5 mm. But you can easily regulate height itself. The bamboo appeared excellent material for this purpose. Besides, it is always possible to make handles for the Cup of a thin wire and to paste them with superglue before painting. It is possible to use a bilateral adhesive tape to fix the Cup during painting. Best Regards! Igor.
  9. Hi Patrick and Mike, I think you will be surprised when you know as easy it was made. I used for this purpose a bamboo toothpick, minidrill Proxon, a scalpel and an emery paper with very fine grain. All process takes some minutes. You process a toothpick butt, then with using the edge of the knife of the scalpel you cut out the toothpick midpoint, then by the same knife you do the external form, then slightly you polish with an emery paper and say: - "Voila!" And you can receive more beautiful appearance if you use qualitative bronze or gold paint. Bets Regards! Igor.
  10. So, following small progress. The bowsprit and first mast assembled: I checked I can twice stretch a rigging thread through a tube: Also I looked as the bowsprit and the mast look on the hull of the yacht: Bets Regards! Igor.
  11. Hi Patrick, I tried to make the Cup for an interior of your yacht, but I think, I need to practise still :) Best Regards! Igor.
  12. I assume that I will place the hull of this model in a bottle without masts. Then I will establish masts serially. But it is my assumptions since I didn't make the project of installation of masts and conducting of a rigging yet. And following the aforesaid I think that I will have to establish masts by means of pins. Best Regards! Igor.
  13. Hi Mike, Unfortunately, I have no this book too, but I read article about lifeboats by Colin Archer in the magazine "Boat and Yacht" and there was a reference with two drawings from this book - http://lib.sportedu.ru/Mirrors/Www.katera.ru/172/172_10.htmlhttp://lib.sportedu.ru/Mirrors/Www.katera.ru/172/172_10.html Best Regards! Igor.
  14. Hi Patrick, Yes,Yes, I tried to make a mast to check some constructive methods. On the photo you can see: 1. the heel of the mast with the diameter from 1 to 0,6 mm. I used a bamboo for it because a bamboo stronger than a usual tree and I will need to drill some bores in a mast which will reduce its strength. 2. cross element for installation of additional guys (it seems is called in English the crosspiece , but I am not sure). I used a medical needle with a diameter of 0,4 mm. A little later I will heat it that metall became soft. 3. boring bit with a diameter of 0,3 mm. 4. bamboo toothpick. I have no holder for such boring bit therefore I made a bore in the bamboo toothpick with a diameter of 0,5 mm and pasted a boring bit in a bore. Thus I received the manual tool. 5. boring bit with a diameter of 0,5 mm So I made a bore with a diameter of 0,3 mm and expanded it by means of the sharp end of a medical needle. My following task to try to stretch 2 thin threads through a needle. Best Regards! Igor.
  15. Hi Michael, A lot of thanks for good words! Sometimes these so tiny details that I almost don't see them. And the most important - them it is impossible to leave without supervision because they aim to be lost somewhere )) Best Regards! Igor.
  16. Hi Bob, Welcome to a board, captain! I think your real place at a steering wheel, of course. )) Best Regards! Igor.
  17. Hi Mike, I expect continuation of your construction. And incidentally I saw the drawing of RS from the book by Tor Borch Sannes, “Batbyggeren Colin Archer”, Norsk Maritimt Forlag, 1984 Best Regards! Igor.
  18. Yes, Patrick, I have the same problem. I come to despair when I see parts of my models in big increase. But I am consoled by that fact that other audience doesn't see these details in big increase :) Good weekend! Igor.
  19. Hi Bob, If I found a bottle of such size and placed in it a schooner of such size, on this photo I would stand on the deck :) Best Regards! Igor.
