  1. Now the gun deck structure has to be re-puzzled. I start with the gun deck stanchions. They will be kept on position by a bamboo pin on the foot and at the top. The deck beams are glued on top of them.
  2. A cross section is in fact a slice of a ship which is sawn out of it. I want to up light all the kerfs by painting them in red. On the lower deck a piece of deck remained to support the stairs, where the deck is cut, the kerf is painted in red.
  3. The surfaces which keep the natural wood color are coated with a blend of 2/3 linseed oil and 1/3 turpentine and then finished with a layer of matt varnish.
  4. All painted areas had three layers of white paint and were sanded in between the layers.
  5. Starting to paint the lower deck. The inner hull is quickly painted. It takes a lot more time to do all the other pieces part after part.
  6. I intend to paint the lower deck in white. I guess that it would be very difficult to do so when the gun deck is already in place, so beams, knees, carlings and ledges are not glued already. I remove them again and will paint them before gluing on position.
  7. Dragged by my enthusiasm in carving notches, I fill also the gun deck stairwell.
  8. I remember from the lower deck that the making of the notches for the ledges in the carlings a monotonous job, so I decide to make them in parts and fill them immediately with ledges. In-between the first two deck beams.
  9. The production process of the knees is the same as in my post of February 19, 2017.
  10. Derek, Glad that we'll be at least two to work at the cross section. I just visited your log, your guns are looking great. I signed me in as follower. G.L.
  11. Here the stanchions are placed in the model almost on their positions. They are placed just behind each deck beam because I do not want to saw them to height before I place definitively the deck beams.
  12. I see that the pictures are coming up in reverse order. My apologies for that.
  13. In March my lathe was still a 30 years old mounting of my Bosh drill, not quite high technology. In the next series of photos you see the making of the gun deck stanchions.
  14. It has been since March that I made any progress in the Triton cross section project because I gave priority at my Ostend shrimper project for some months. Time to take up the thread now. The deck beams and gun deck stanchions were already made in March.
  15. I wish also that I could make CNC machines. It is really a pleasure to see so many talented and skilled persons on this forum.
  16. I see no mistakes. I wish that I could make such nice carvings. G.L.
  17. Jeronimo, Sometimes I have the same problem. My pictures also don't occur always in the order that I send (and want) them. Some explanation would also please me. I think that I can imagine the sequence of your story. I just can say that I admire your accurate way of working. G.L.
  18. No, I do not see them as well. G.L.
