Making 60 oars in 1/350 was not a pleasant process that is for sure. Here is with some test-masts that were later replaced with proper ones.

So... I'm building dutch pinnce from XVII century. Vessel was built in Dutch shipyard and then serve few years in Dutch Navy... after all Navy sold ship in 1623 to Swedish Navy. This vessel participate in the battle of Oliwa (coast of Poland) in 1627... battle was part of war between Poland and Sweden. In 1929 vessel came back to the waters of Bay of Gdańsk to took part with other vessels in blockade of the City of Gdańsk. She was sank in 1644.

I'm using pear wood for entire model (except deck which was made using birch wood and carvings which is pau marfin)

    Hello,
I am very happy about the extremely nice comments from all of you and the many LIKES.
That of course motivates me a lot and gives me the feeling of being part of a really great community that pursues the same interests. Thanks again for that.

Continuation: Mizzen topgallant stay - Étai mât de perruche
As already reported on this topic some time ago (LINK), the monograph by J. Boudriot does not reveal in detail how the mizzen topgallant stay was attached. In this respect, I orientated myself on examples from relevant literature.
Before attaching the stay (model rope ø 0.46 mm), its length must be determined on the model, as it is guided over a single block (length 4 mm) and integrating the thimble on the model is not necessarily recommended.

The next picture shows the finished mizzen topgallant stay and the two-legged sling (counterpart for the lanyard lashing), which is attached to the trestle trees.

The lanyard for the lashing to fix the mizzen topgallant stay was set up with a simplified splice or fake splice (unfortunately I don't know the English name).

In the last picture you can see the finished lanyard lashing. A corresponding enlargement in the cut-out at the top left.

    Sequel follows …

Well folks chapter 6 is officially done. Adding the fancy moulding added a lot to the visual of Cheerful. Its amazing how much a little finish will add to the overall image.
Not much to explain just followed others logs and the monograph. The one thing that was problematic was scratching the fancy moulding out of AYC. Being soft wood my tool kept leaving fuzzy surfaces. I decided to you Boxwood as I have had excellent results with other fancy moulding. I had a sheet of 1/16" and ripped off 1/16" strips. Using the brass scraper to form the detail. When done with detail I applied a coat of WOP and when dry the Byrnes thickness sander was used to reduce the thickness to .025. I found it much easier to work with the thicker strip and thin it to the desired thickness.

    On to chapter 7

    Grating.

I thought I had taken more photos of the process, but apparently I did not.   I spent the better part of the weekend on this one hatchway.   I managed to make one in about 2-hours, which was ok-ish...   then spent the next 10-12 hours over two days trying to make another.   Getting the tolerances right so everything fit well and was consistently cut made the process that much harder.   Im happy with the result though.   I had thought I was going to get a bit farther with the planking of the gun deck, until about 12:30 Sunday a huge broad-leaf maple came crashing down from the area just off my property line and completely pulverized my fence...

So the rest of Sunday and part of yesterday I was clearing and fence building.   Fun times.

    Deck planking going in...

Welp, believe it or not the front cant frames are finished!  Can't believe I'm actually at this moment!  Also I finally built my overhead gantry, Ed Tosti style.  As per my usual of over building everything, it's over built - but that's OK. It works and is square and solid.
One area of concern I'm not happy about is the cant frames vs hawse hole placement.  I drew and redrew that area and finally thought I'd reached my best compromise between the cants (and Hackett's design of them) and the hawse holes location using Baker and Fox's placement of them from 1809.  After seeing the completed frames and roughly laying out where the holes will punch the cant frames I'm not happy at all.  I will not however be going back and redoing the cants again.  3 times is enough.  No one but the experts will know and at this point if I tear them out again I may loose my mojo and bail again.  Don't want to do that.
So, my shipyard and shipwrights will move on with the build.  I'll show some pics later of the area of concern, right now I'm not going to dwell on it.
Cant frames are 90% faired, they look pretty good now.  Port sills are fair and a temporary deck clamp I installed looked good.  Remember the port side will be planked over so if it looks a little rougher than starboard, it is 😉
    Pics...

And let me introduce my overbuilt Gantry Extreme 3000...  You can also get a view of the build board I made - and more workshop clutter - seems that a theme with me LOL.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! catch you next time

I've been busy! I just finished painting the inside of our house, including our family room, kitchen, foyer, 2 bathrooms and two bedrooms. I also removed carpeting and underlayment in two bedrooms to prep for installing hardwood floors...which is my next project! I have sneaked in a little modeling time, though.

Here is some preliminary work on the cannons. I first built an assembly jig so everything goes together nicely and the same. The metal work will come next and then the trucks. You can see some shallow "gouges" in the carriage brackets where the eyebolts fit. This is so the eyebolts can be "buried" in the brackets as they were in real life, to prevent them from turning.
