  1. The old saying goes "What they don't know won't hurt" or want in one hand and $hit in the other and see which fills up the quickest. I believe that's what the manufactures are saying. Sorry - had to say it.
  2. Have you tried Model Masters by Testors? They have a really good colors even different paints in metal. They are about $2.50/bottle and are worth every cent. I've used these paints for over 20+ years. If you use a air brush they have some that are for this application.
  3. I know what you mean by being fragile, I once found a newspaper from the Civil War and gave it to the local library. Have you thought about taking a picture with a cell phone? This might work for you as I have seen people doing this on a phone.
  4. I have seen some use a razor blade to shape edges and nice cuts but I haven't been able to cut the marks on the blades very well. I've got to get the v-groove correct which I have to do this very, very cautions as not to take to much off, measure twice or even 3 or 4 times cut once.
  5. Sorry about that as a name, It's David or other names depending who I pi$$ed off. Thanks' Allan and Andy and everyone else.
  6. Running thread in the dead eyes and blocks are some what fairly easy but what is the easiest way to thread tiny dead eyes and blocks? It's like the thread is larger the drilled holes even using tweezers and a magnified glasses.
  7. Seeing your pictures of the hatch's (grating) is very nice, this is one thing I wish I could do and look that good.
  8. Has anyone tried MODEL MASTERS? I used these because of the great selection they have. Not only can they be brushed they can be used in air brushing.
  9. Has there ever been a kit that is a diorama? I have seen a few done by the builder but not in kit form. Would there be one that is? This is FMI For My Inforamtion
  10. Have you tried Model Masters? I have been thinking about trying a Battle Ship of a few my father was on after the 2nd WW. Except I have 2 other builds to do before something else. Kida tribute to my father since he wont be here much longer.
  11. WOW!!!!!! How do you bend the parts w/o messing them up. If I ever thought about doing a project lick this my wife would probably would smack me in the head and call me 'STUPID'. I would have to get some fairies to do the work. I like challenges but this I would NOT do. ------------------Can not wait until it is done-------------------------------
  12. so is the drum better than the planer? is the planer more expensive or the sander.? the reason is because I am wanting a planer to get a good finish on both sides
  13. Harbor Freight has another work bench for $99.00 and doesn't have the same storage but the back has a peg board on it, some times they go on sale for about $79.00 (don't quote me on it) This is the one I will be buying this month not the other.
  14. I know you live in Australia, look up a couple of sites www.lowes.com/power-tools or Harbor Freight, they have planner for $269.00 American dollars and higher priced one too. I will be buying one this month.
  15. Has anyone used a table saw from harbor freight? Can I use a paneling blade? Or other type of electric tools?
  16. What is the difference in the wood drum (used to bring it to the correct thickness) and a planner? or are they same but with a different name?
  17. Awhile back I seen some beautiful ships that were made from "bone" ivory. Have you tried doing a search on the net as bone ships? There are plenty to view, amazing!
  18. Milo, when you used sapele how did it work for you? I have run across quite a lot of Sapele that could used for the framing if all goes well. When I was getting my wood (from a dumpster) I noted that there was a smell I can't forget and the dust is not to healthy to breath in. But, then I didn't have a respirator with me, not a good idea. Sapele=50-60 24" pieces that are 24" Sapele = 65 or 75 pieces under 24" the widths vary for 1/8", 1 1/2", height varies 1/8" x 1 3/4" All were free and can get more of needed.
  19. Do you use one of those head pieces that have a light and a magnified glasses on it. I think I wood go blind looking at those tiny pieces. (Shoot the are so small those little fairies or knomes have those glasses too). What kind of glue do you use on these brass pieces that won't leave fog traces? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!With these types of models a man that has nervous problems these are not recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. WOW!!! you've bought a zombie and gave him a can of Coke. ( Coke adds life). Really you are doing an outstanding job, I believe you will surprise yourself when you are done.
  21. what's up ya'll, I usually build wooden ships but there are times I change to break the tension to give myself a rest. I see you use hobby knives, well I do to but there are times when I see my doctor and ask him/her for scalps. The tips are so sharp and pointy. Well just my 2 cents worth.
  22. One question if I may, where do you get your card stock and the lb. or g/m? I have been using 110lb and 199g/m2 I get from Office Depot.
  23. OMG!!! Talking about tiny pieces, if it takes that much care, I would hate to be the one that makes all the pieces.
