  1. A good friend named Steve Porter was an Air Force fighter jock. He told me a story about flying with Buccaneers at Red Flag, probably in the same era as you, Ken. Steve flew an F-16, and if I remember correctly, he flew F-4's before that. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago but I still recall his wit and humor, along with his sharp mind. He was involved in Emergency Management after his Air Force career, the Homeland Security stuff that came about after 9-11.
  2. In the past, they have asked for individual threads, so I'll probably start with that unless a mod jumps in and tells me otherwise.
  3. Roger that. Will be there in a few days.
  4. The South African version was one of the schemes I liked, along with a camouflaged RAF version but alas, these RAF ones have the bulged bomb bay. Some seem to have the flared wingtips though. Kits-World Aircraft decals - KW148184 | Hannants
  5. What are the physical, visual differences between the S.2C/D depicted by our kits and other versions of the Buccaneer? I have seen decal markings for Buccaneer aircraft that are not the S.2C/D version and really like them. If I stick with the kit decals, then I'll do the Ark Royal version. As for seatbelts, I'll probably just order the Eduard ejection seats and those come with belts.
  6. By now, I have one of my own as well. Maybe the three of us will do an ad-hoc build of it.
  7. Maybe there were no steering clutches on the track drives?
  8. Poor molds or not, they are looking very good from where I'm sitting. Carry on.
  9. My wife bought my new best buddy a Valentines Day sweater yesterday. He’s five months old now, a mix between a King Charles Spaniel and Poodle. So much life, energy, and personality. Smart little buggar, too. My grandson bought his little sister and my daughter a bouquet of flowers before we all went out for a fabulous Valentines Day dinner. Dinner was fabulous.
  10. Once the details have been painted inside the cab and all the instrument decals placed, it is cemented in place inside the cab. Next the window seal and placard decals are applied to all the glass, then those pieces are cemented into place. The window seal decals were very fiddly and quite easy to break apart being very thin. In hindsight, careful masking and painting of the extensive rubber seals would have been perhaps a better option. I doubt there are aftermarket paint masks available but if there were, I would buy and use them if doing this again. All the fit was good except for a little fitting issues with a couple glass pieces.
  11. I took some photos of this massive shore battery that’s been on display here in my hometown all my life. If I remember correctly, it’s an 8 inch gun. The sheer size and weight of these old guns is incredible.
  12. After laying down some of the primary colors, the cab is dry fitted before adding more details.
  13. Construction begins with the operator office and cab. After sub component assembly, everything gets a coat of black primer to begin.
  14. Add a little armor for the operator and this thing could be an urban combat nightmare. 😁
  15. Scrapyard scene, cutting up old equipment for scrap. Or...a disaster scene, clearing construction debris. I'd guess there are a lot of things you could do with it, but for now, I'll be satisfied just building, detailing, and weathering it.
  16. Well dang, it seems that this machine is used to cut apart even heavy equipment as can be seen in this promotional photo. Being a high-powered robot fighting weapon may not be too far-fetched after all. Double-Front Work Machine - Hitachi Construction Machinery (hitachicm.com)
  17. I've never seen one of these in real world usage, but it looks like a forestry tool, maybe for harvesting timber, although machines I have seen utilize a circular blade for cutting the trees vice the type of cutter this machine employs. It does look like a mean alien extermination tool. 😄 Spruebrothers have "lightning sale items" and this is where I scored this kit for a favorable price. I've seen a few more heavy equipment kits in this series from Hasegawa and I was interested to see how well it was done. Looks pretty darned good inside the box. Detail is excellent. Having been in and around heavy construction most of my life, I recall when heavy equipment from the East were the brunt of many jokes, but that is no longer the case.
  18. Finished Thanks for following along, the likes and comments.
  19. On this guy's YouTube channel, he creates movie props/sci-fi models using dollar-store items. He builds some interesting models for small money.
  20. The nice thing about the Flory wash, if you don’t like the way it looks after you’ve applied it, you can wash it away with water and start all over again. Very forgiving whereas most washes are somewhat permanent. Trying to remove them will damage the paint underneath. Flory doesn’t do that.
  21. A gloss varnish, decals, seal the decals with another gloss varnish, then a liberal covering of Flory Models dark dirt wash. Almost done now.
