CDW reacted to Egilman in F-86F-30 Sabre by Egilman - Kinetic - 1/32nd scale
THANK YOU SIR!!!
That first image is a great general reference image for the insignia pattern showing the pointed stripe..... Also, you have it over most variations of F-86 usage RF-86F in the first image, a foreign service F-86E (australian), and a flight of US F-86F's... That is the best confirmation of my educated guess anyone could provide, full rounded and total...
Thank you Very Very Much...
You da Man!

Sitting next to a German staff car in the same scale gives an impression of the size of the D7, a big machine, close to 40 tons gross weight.

Observe the hand crank on top of the engine cover. The crank is connected to a vertical shaft that makes a 90 degree turn toward an object on the side of the engine. The hand crank is used to start the engine vis a vis a “pony motor”. The object on the side of the engine is the pony motor. When the pony motor is started using the hand crank, this auxiliary motor actually is the starter for the Diesel engine. Not an electric start. As a matter of fact, one of the first things we are taught when working on a gas pipeline is to quickly throw a rag over top of the air breather in the event we ever strike and rupture a live gas pipeline. Unless choked for air, a Diesel engine will rev up uncontrollably once it starts breathing in natural gas.

Nice work on the stack. Looking good. 👍
Like EG said, need more soot around the top of the stack. My Case tractor was like that. And we kept a bucket over top of the exhaust unless we were running it.

CDW reacted to bcochran in Robert E Lee by bcochran - FINISHED - Pyro - 1/163 - PLASTIC - steamboat
The rear of the boiler deck is in place with its wood deck. (The decks from the bottom up are the main deck, the boiler deck, the hurricane deck, the texas and the pilot house. The boilers are on the main deck, the cabins on the boiler deck. ) This model is a series of parts stacked on or leaning against each other. The fit is reasonably good, some places difficult, and there is warpage, sink holes, flash, and ejection pin marks to deal with. This kit is 61 years old. Since the fit of one piece depends on another's location, get the first out of place and the next is out of place. Taken as a whole it looks ok so far I think. Not perfect. Also, you need to paint a piece, let it cure then glue it in place. A bit time-consuming when you can build another type model as a unit, then paint it.
This is coming along one step at a time.

I used a tooth pic and some acrylic yellow paint to color the lettering on the side boards. I also used a small black felt tip to outline the lettering. I believe John Fryant mentioned that that Robert E Lee's lettering my have been yellow. I didn't want the garish red lettering on my boat, so I went with yellow.
