Hi Marcus. Welcome to MSW 🙂

Hi all. I have assembled all the frames and dry fit everything together. I tried something a little different this time. I clamped the straight edge across the top timber instead of trying to hold it in place with one hand while trying to align the floors to the reference lines. Turns out its much easier that way. I would just loosen the clamp a little as needed to adjust the position of the straight edge when needed to get the two pieces aligned as close to perfect as possible. One of the problems I ran into the first time around was with the slot for the number 12 frame. I broke the little tip (circled in red in the picture) off twice when doing my test fit of the keel to the frames. This time I just left the 12th frame off and I'll place it when I do the final fit. Next, I'll reinforce the frames with packing tape and some wood strips. My work area is now a no-small children zone 🙂 There will be no more accidents.

Okay, after a short break and acquiring some replacement parts, I'm back in the saddle on this build. This is the my replacement keel after assembly and a coat of wipe-on poly. The poly brings out the color and the grain of the wood nicely. I feel like my seams are a little tighter this time. Now its time to build some frames.

Welcome to MSW. I think you could do it based on your previous work. I tackled the Conny as my second build and I've managed so far.

Good luck with the build, looking forward to seeing your progress.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
