Off to a good start Frank. Looks like you got her straightened back out nicely.

I have been noticing warped false keels coming out of the box a lot lately. Mine was the same way but unfortunately I didn't get it straightened out quite enough as I found out after planking. Oh well, it still works. I'm wondering if they are not getting packed correctly or maybe if humidity is getting to them though if that were the case I would expect to find more problems with the wood so I'm leaning towards packing.
Not a big deal just another step to be mindful of when starting out.

a little up date time........ following are a couple pictures showing frame assembly... pretty straight  and forward.... all supports and fairing are done.
I'm not going to double plank this build as they suggest. I 'm really not a fan of double planking, once is enough    ...... The hull width is fairly shallow  so 2 bands should be sufficient , I'll have to line her out and see how it works .Hopefully next time around   I'll have some planks laid up.
    Till then..........Cheers! !

    I have done a little.
I have finished the woodwork ( almost ) for the launch.
It's a good thing to practice because I need 4 of those for the Aggy.
There must be some minor sanding and painting.
But there are a few other things that I have to work on to the launch.
When the paint is on you will see an update of the launch.
In the mean I'm still planking the hull.

When I came in to the room with the launch to show Anja what i have done I've got these words from her.....
" I thought that the Agamemnon  was bigger ??????"
    How about that !!!!!!
    Or in Dutch......Pfffffffffffff

Thanks for the birthday wishes and the comments.    See my post in "Them old jokes" for sense of how the day is going...

My wife says that I'm 2 years old, with an attitude, and lots of experience.  She might be right.  So I'm celebrating experience today.

I'm thinking I should have went larger..  seriously..    As for sailing her... I'm not letting this one see water at all, except maybe in a glass, on my desk.

It tis an interesting conundrum, John.  I find no indication on the NMM plans of the gun deck for any internal structure in quarter gallery area.   Well.. they show the door to the galleries.. but that's it.   They packed a lot into these small ships. What I've been calling the "berth deck" and it would be on an English/American ship is just the "lower deck" (I'm changing terminology henceforth).  There's some officer cabins in the stern, storerooms, bread rooms, etc.  Which would follow the tales of the sailors sleeping anywhere they could find a place to lay down.

    Minor Update and a Caution
I had some fireworks in the shop yesterday.  I had a couple of flareups on the wood being cut in the Death Star.  It was a first for me, but my handy spray bottle took care of it fast.    If you ever use a laser cutter, watch it up close when cutting.   I suspect it's the thinness of the wood and oil (?) in the Euro Box that caused the problem.  This wood seems to cut rather inconsistently and end up re-cutting parts several times.

I'm about to recut 3 of the gallery decorations to replace ones damaged during installation.  Thin wood that breaks easily.   Hopefully, I'll finish this off today and post pictures.

I think I'll do carvings in the background while turning my main focus to the interior.  Time to do something less fiddly....

That's painfull ... I suddenly increased the size of your build .... maybe that's why I couldn't get some details to fit on my own models

You would sail Licorne if you were closer to the sea !?!?!?

The garboard strake is important, and I think you've got it nailed, Elijah.  Often it's allowed to "creep up" the bow, causing trouble in the planking down the line.

EJ_L reacted to jbshan in Hammock Netting Question
At 'bedtime' the starboard (or port) watch would each take two hammocks from storage, one for each man and one for his neighbor.  He would take them below and hang them from adjoining hooks, leaving his buddy's lashed up and his own deployed for sleep.  When the watch changed, each man on deck had his hammock already in place and ready to unlash and get into.  The dog watches would even this out.  The hammocks were numbered as was the stowage in the hammock cranes and the hooks from the deck beams below.  Two hammocks issued to each allowed for better cleanliness.  How to find yours?  Yours was the hammock that didn't stink.
Some of this process is in Cmdr. Martin's 'Most Fortunate Ship'.
We are of course talking about the sailing ship era.  I was surprised to find a drying room surrounding a funnel on (Massachusetts?) covered in one of the magazines.  I presume possibly for the bridge watch.

Mark, that is the accepted norm, glad to see you introducing some exceptions. 8 bells was the length of the watch as it is today, but it was a Port and Starboard system, anyone who has stood Port and Starboard for long sure grows fond of the 3 watch system.

    Jud,

I'm with Joel.  The contemporary evidence points to what he said.  Hammocks were washed on a regular basis along with clothing.  Stowed in the netting after undergoing an "inspection" involving a hoop to ensure they were rolled tight enough.   Foul weather and (depending on the captain and the ship) either moved to the hold or berthing deck or covered with canvas in the cranes.

The reason for two was the watch system which you're familiar with... 4 on, 4 off, dog watch, etc.  On washing day, the hammock would be washed and dried on deck.  The extra hammock was for the sailor to use until it was dry.  Most, if not all, captains were pretty strict about keeping things clean...

OK, I read it. don't think it makes a bit of sense to issue two hammocks to each sailor. Two men to each hammock and hot bunk it would make more sense, except the hammock did double duty as a storage place for each seaman. It is the accepted idea that the hammocks were kept in the hammock cranes except when in use, that's fine. I don't think that was the norm, have pointed that out and everyone is free to make up their own minds.

So I don't come across as a complete jerk, I did look at your work, was impressed with the quality.
Have painted canvas to water proof it and it works well as long as there is very limited movement, doesn't take much for the paint to crack and chip. Where canvas was used on some of the ships I was aboard for awnings or other decorative trim, unlaced and retied into knot patterns, it was kept washed, not painted.
