    Hi ChristIan
    Lookin very good.
In your first post " . Next step was the keel. Goodwin shows for the pass between keel and lower apron a solution which I could not find on any original cutter drawings."
This had me looking into why Goodwin drew it like this... A local shipwright informed me that it use is " a part of the bow/keel joint that was phrone to being damaged while in shallow waters. This area is easy replaced.

Working on the binnacle.  The compasses and lantern aren't done yet.  They will sit in their compartment which is lined in holly.  There will be an acetate window and a brass chimney with a conical top.  The binnacle is cherry.

As written in my last post I bought last month the design drawing for Alert/Rattlesnake at the NMM.
With my new knowledge about reconstruction of a line drawing I started to redesign the ship on basis of the NMM drawing.

For this I did not use any information of Goodwin, because it's not a primary source. I don't have access to the archieves so I will only use the NMM drawing and later the vademecum for the scantlings. I am not sure if I like to show my model as designed and shown on the drawing or as shown on the Marshal painting.
Both presentations have the same origin: they should show the design for a ship to the people who allocate the funds.

The drawing isn't finished but I like to hear your meaning about the the reconstructed lines:

It#s my first reconstructed ship, so I am not sure if everything is right.

    Hello Shipmates.
A large update as I have had a lot of time building.
I made up some mesh for the hammocks my using some tights (fishnet) stretching them and then applying PVA glue until dry. The knit does not show when in place on the ship.

    The Hull completely planked.

    Upper part showing planking. Port.

    Upper part showing planking. Starboard.

Tree nails Holes drilled on Quarter Deck.

    Coppering the Hull completed.

    Nice and shiny.

View into the decks with the hull upside down.

Close up of the copper plates. Port.

Close up of the copper plates . Starboard.

Have also faced off both ends of the ship (Fore and Aft ) makes it mush more pleasant to look at

Will cover the copper plates with a very thin film used to cover book covers. This will stop little fingers pulling off the copper plates.

    Thanks for looking in.

    Hi Shipmates.
Thanks for the comments and the likes.
Decided to try something new.. Cutting the outer planks some 48 each side of the hull.

Started by glueing the black card onto the face of the Cherry timber.

Timber now cut with the card already glued onto one edge ready to plank.

A close up of the result.

Found some moulding in my local dolls house. Quality is very good.

made up the decoration to match the mouldings.

Just adding a few bits to the quarter deck.

Made up most of the furniture for the quarterdeck.
Going to start planking the outer /lower hull this week.

    Thanks for looking in.

A small update on the Quarter deck.
The Deck planked and ready to tree nail.

    Another view from the side.

The copper wire is only for testing the jig for the bending. Will use brass for this.

Started on the deck furniture and will post a update when completed.

    Hello shipmates.
Well its time for another small update.

Today while working on the topdeck I made a template for the hanging knees.
But to my horror I forgot to add then on the middle deck

So managed to cut them out and add them to the middle deck.

First time I have used super glue on a model ship.

And yes I did remember them on the Orlop Deck.

    Also made up the racks.

Hope to get in another few hours later on this week.
First its the main beams and all the other timber to be cut down to size.

    Will post later this week

    Regards Antony.

    Hi Shipmates.

A few more photos on my progress up to date.

Tree nails are cocktail sticks sacked on dark stain then dryed and a .6 mm hole drilled into the Tulipwood.

treenail then glued into place  and when dry cut with side cutter and sandpapered.

Chalking done with Black card. All the planks steed on edge and card glued to facing edge with PVA glue.

    Before sanding down and after.

Tree nailing done on far side only this side to complete now.

This middle Deck is now almost complete and now need to add the furniture.

I will add the scuppers holes and the holes for the Gunport lids ropes as I do deck by deck.

    Thanks for looking in.

    Hello Shipmates.
    Another update for you.
My first attempt at a companion way.

    Starting the deck fittings.

    Opps.. the dam companionway slipped..

Tables and benches ready to go.

    Another on of the benches.

Cannon carriages and tools made up.

    cannon carriages close up.

Home made rope is a little stiff for my liking.

    More deck fittings

    Middle deck taking shape.

    Another view of middle deck.

Carving wood for the entrances. Core timber is Lime with 2 types of veneer laminated on top. Pear being the top one.

Image put onto carving surface. Used Acetone on paper printed with a laser printer.

Found out that the surface timber has to be really smooth to do this.
This is my sixth attempt at carving this piece of door...

    That’s about it for now.
    Thanks for looking in.

    Hello Shipmates.
A long due update on progress.
    Have completed the pumps.

    Photos from many different angles.

Have spent some time looking at the cannons and how too produce 16 of them.
The cannon barrels..  I decided to cast my own using black resin.
A silicon mould was made first using the master.

    First part (not yet finished.)

    First part (not yet finished.)

    Second cast.

note the vents . had air bubbles in so carved vents in to release air bubble.

    Cast with the master/Plug.

Carriages are made. I used 2 types of timber for this as they will look pretty.

The large piece in the middle is the jig that will hold all the parts together while drying.
Should hold then at the correct angles.

This will be my next job assembling the carriages.

    Thanks for looking in.

Good day in the shop.  Here are a few sequence shots of how I am building the tops with planked sides.

1st Pic....Split shot showing the block of pine wood as it is marked on both sides before being shaping into the form used to build the sides.  Note, the thickness of the block is exactly the height of the finished top.

2nd Pic.....After shaping the block and fitting the 16 vertical planks equally spaced around the form and beginning to fit the first row of planking.  Note the glue used to fit these vertical planks is diluted to facilitate removal later.  Also note, I have begun with the form placed upside down on a metal surface in order to keep the outer edges of the starting planks perfectly aligned.  Also note the alternating pattern of end cuts.

3rd Pic....The pattern of the planks is more evident showing the third row being fitted.  The joint gaps are desired as glue cavities for the outer vertical planks.

4th Pic.... Split shot showing the removal of the block form with very course rasp bits.
Note in the left shot, the outer "seam" at each of the 16 joints has been sanded flat to provide a good glue surface for the vertical planks.
Note in the right shot, the outer vertical planks have been fitted before final removal of the remaining pine form material.

5th pic.... There you are.  Ready for floor piece, knees, and top rail, to be fitted....not included herein.

Before I start my build log some information about the real La Créole and
the data from which my model will build.

The La Créole was a 24-gun corvette of the French Navy. The corvette
    carried 4 x 18 pdr guns and 20 x 30 pdr carronades.
Her plans were drawn by P. M. Leroux in 1827. She was launched in Cherbourg in
May 1829. The ship took part in the French invasion of Mexico in 1838, and most
notably in the Bombardment of San Juan de Ulloa before French troops disembarked and captured the city of Veracruz.

There is a fine shipyard model on display at the Musée national de la Marine in Paris which is shown by many photos in the book of Jean Boudriot (in French).

I use the following sources for building my model of the corvette:
Jean Boudriot - Historique de la corvette 1650-1850: La
    Créole, 1827

    Now the images of beginning:

    To be continued...

Back again for the final post of this part of the build.

These are the parts for my upper deck bitts. They will be assembled and fitted later.

The gunport lids have been fitted with their hinges and fixed to the ships side and have had the tackles for opening and closing added....

....and the tackles have been rigged.

Prompted by the other build that I mentioned in my intro I have added a boarding ladder and manrope.
A piece of timber was shaped, cut to length and shaped some more then fixed to the ships side.

Next the hammock netting frame and netting are attached...

...the hammocks will be made and added later.

Finally with the bitts in place and populated with some simulated rope and lines the main structure is complete.

This build neatly divides into three areas. The first, just completed, is the main structure. The second is the the modification and construction of the two great guns and making and fitting their tackles. The third is the making of all the below decks paraphernalia and the final fitting out. This last area is full of scope for imaginative thinking but it is also likely to be the most fiddly and time consuming.

There will now be a short intermission.....or it could be a long one for I am off the to the Ordnance yard.

    Mike.

Sorry about the break in transmission. Some clot at my front door trying to sell me building enhancements
despite the notice telling him that I neither buy nor sell from the doorstep. He has gone now and will, no doubt, be digesting the advice that I gave him.

    Where were we?

The last image in my previous post showed the rear frame uprights removed and the start of stanchion fitting.
The stanchions are pinned top and bottom though the bottom ones are not seen.

Stanchions completed. Note that I have omitted the centre outboard stanchion in order to make room for some extra internal fittings that I have in mind for later.

Knees. I did not like the kit knees very much so I cut some new ones. As I did not have any suitable dark wood available these have been stained ( despite my earlier reply to Jan! ) I will gloss varnish these later to distinguish them!

    Knees fitted.

Gunport lids. These were cut to shape on the Byrnes saw using the tilting table. Oh, how easy!

The lids will be fitted later.

At this point I decided to stray from the plans again and add a ladder between the decks as this seemed to link the two levels of the model in a natural way.

The ladder fitted with its hatch combing. Later on I will decide how to finish this off .....grating in situ, set aside or none at all.

Next the top deck planking. This caulked with black card and properly trenailed.

The completed top decking with a "finishing strip" added.

This image shows the butt shift and caulking before trenailing and sanding.....

....and this is a general top view after trenailing.

And finally the "finishing strip" at the rear of the deck.
