Gerhardvienna got a reaction from ggrieco in USS CAIRO by Gerhardvienna - RADIO - live steam
Hi Nenad
I`m dreaming, breathing, eating, living frames, I AM FRAMES !
There are a lot more still to make, but the first 31 are done.
Hi again to all my visitors, and thank you for your nice likes!
Today I made the next frames, including the first frames for the boilers. They are a little different to the "normal" frames, and need more work and pieces per part.
Boiler frame in the jig
all 31 frames set to the keels for a test

Gerhardvienna got a reaction from popeye the sailor in USS CAIRO by Gerhardvienna - RADIO - live steam
Hi again, and thank you all for your nice likes!
The last days wrer filled with more frame making, the front frames from No. 110 to 85 are done, and the keels are prepared to that point. I will need even more time for the next frames, a lot of them is still to build..........
Frames 110 to 85
The keels with cut out frameseats
Cut first the central keel
Then the side keels
Ready done. The cutouts are 1/10th of a mm wider than the frames are. This will allow me to mount the frames easy to the keels.
Regards, thank you for watching and your comments and mybe critics!

Gerhardvienna got a reaction from hexnut in USS CAIRO by Gerhardvienna - RADIO - live steam
Hi John
Thank you! Will be a long way to go............
Hi Popeye
I saw a similar jig in the building steps report from Bob Hill, but he used a closed jig, I wanted to excluse any mismatch of both sides, so i decided to make an open jig, and turn the frames after glueing one side. That way all the angles are equal.
Hi Mark
YES! There are a lot of frames to make, freehand work would not be good enough for that
Hi everyone!
Thank you all for your nice likes and comments again!
Today I made the next frames, No. 110 to 101 are done now, framework still continues. This will be a never ending story
Best regards

A Restart?
NO, just a continuation.............
After a nice weekend I could go on again with the Cairo. I made the first set of frames, but had a smaller mistake with them. I tried to glue them free handed, but they had too large differencies i their height so I had to dismantle them. For the next try I made a glueing form, now the frames are all at the same height.
Thank you all for your nice likes and for watching!!

'Positively final farewell appearance!' So the old theatre posters read. And this is true for the Greenwich Hospital barge. The sub-base has been made and finished, and so is this log. My profound thanks to all who looked in, 'liked' and commented. You are a great world-wide network of craftspeople with whom I am proud to be associated. Happy model-making!
Serious enquiries of interest only for acquiring this model are invited.

Thanks, Peter.
Rigging deadeyes WILL be ... hmm... interesting? Painful? Headache? Challenge?
I can see my destiny even now ... deadeyes 3 and 4 mm dia...
Micro works I have done, seems to be a good training for devil's rigging waiting in furure

Gerhardvienna reacted to NenadM in Cutty Sark by NenadM
Gerhard, I use Illustrator, regular program from Adobe family.
Same results you can get with Corel, CAD or any other drawing program in which you can put pdf jpg bmp etc etc raster image in one layer, and draw and edit vector drawings over - in another layers
Long ago I found on internet ... hmmm... scaned C-plans, pretty blured, saved as *.pdf files, imported them to Adobe acrobat, enlarged them to my scale, and have got more blur and distorsion...
So, I am, on some way, forced to make my own working drawings

Gerhardvienna reacted to Mirabell61 in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
thank you so much for your nice compliment Lawrence,
during checking out the run of the shrouds and backstays with preliminary sewing thread, I just noticed that there should be 6 turnbuckle screws (instead of 5) on each side, so warm up the blackening acid once again....

Gerhardvienna reacted to dgbot in Phantom by Elijah - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1:96 - New York Pilot Boat
Looking good Elijah. You could also remove the bulwarks this will make it easier to carve the deck Then rebuild the bulkhead with stantions notched in the hull. At the next meeting talk to Bob Filipowski who has done it many times.

Gerhardvienna reacted to Elijah in Phantom by Elijah - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1:96 - New York Pilot Boat
Thanks for all the compliments guys, much appreciated! I have been cleaning up my workspace in preparation for new stages in my build. My workshop feels 4 times bigger ! Back to the ship!
Until next time!
P.s. The second hull is lent to me so I can get an idea as to how my ship should look.

Gerhardvienna reacted to NenadM in USS CAIRO by Gerhardvienna - RADIO - live steam
Do you dream frames?
During coopering, when I first draw, make "rivets", cut and glue over 4000 pieces, I meet a pain itself.
Again, when making planking strips for decks
Your work is more delicate, and at the same time, much harder, demanding much more patience
How more to go?
