HI Mike Another problem overcome, well done. I am currently building a Ship-ways model Philadelphia. So far everything has been most impressive; design, instructions, a very well thought out model. I have noticed though, that some of the larger pieces of thin wood do bare an uncanny resemblance to the type of wood you are having so much trouble with (deck). However it does look a fine model. Anyway I have learnt something from your trials and tribulations, so thanks for posting. Regards Red

Hi Mike, There are plenty of experts on the site who will be able to advise you better, but If faced with this sort of situation, I would have tried some sanding sealer on a piece of scrap to see if that would help. I think the trick is to keep it flat with weights. Looks like have recovered from your difficulties very well. Once painted none of this should show. Good luck Regards Red

Can i live without a BYRNES TABLE SAW
Red replied to shihawk's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
My experience mirrored 'barkingmads' response exactly, as does his comments. Thank you to both Jim/Donna for a great product. As soon as the £ climbs back to where it should be and the UK government have stopped trying to pay off the national debt with trade from the USA, I will be going back for Jim's sander. Kind Regards Red (Also North Yorkshire) -
Hi Tim, That looks really neat. Looking forward to seeing more. Regards Red

Hi Bob, Had an option, buy a camera or a Jim Byrnes saw. No contest, the saw won hands down, even though postage and tax doubled the price. The saw will increase in value, cameras are obsolete after a couple of months. Looking forward to your next post Regards Red (Yorkshire UK)

Loving the build Bob. I am building Granado as well and am following closely. Wish I could pick up Holly and boxwood for my ship but it appears unavailable in UK Regards Red

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
