I was wondering how I would do the scroll around the hawse pipe, I tried to carve the scroll but the kit supplied wood is no good for this so thought about painting it but trying to make both the same 🤔
So came up with making the scroll from .018" brass rod, using a pattern from LB Jensons book, in the book it does say ( these were drawn free hand cutting in with a chisel and painting with gold leaf) and also says scrolls done in summer seemed to have more knobs than those done in winter, being in flower, so to speak.
This is the start of the two scrolls as you can see there were some very small parts to solder together.

There are many mistakes to correct, hoping that the second plank layer will hide. It is a very complicated shape though..

Here is a little update ,
very usefully jig for marking vertical lines on the ship i hope it will help other builders
so, here i have marked the bulkheads lines on the first plank and also the pattern of the butt shift system on the middle of the ship ..
but i will talk about this method later ..
here is some pictures :
Best regards,
Michael.
Beautiful planking!!! And very interesting gadgets, thanks a lot for sharing Michael!

During the planking process, I would recommend those who are about to start the Mamoli kit to cover these metal gun barrel carriers.
It is too time-consuming to cut that many plank pieces in between the gun ports. Instead, I would recommend attaching the entire plank, covering the gun ports, and then making the openings.

I keep going, this part is extremely tricky

Since ths is my first plank on bulkhead kit, I am so proud, that I wanted to share another view of my progress.

Thanks a lot Bill! I wanted to do the same but the better ones are far mor expensible an way bigger!

Advancing with the gratings. The quality of the Kit's gratings isn't that good, I had to use Model Shipway's.
I also decided to enlarge the lower deck that can be seen through these openings. I didn´t like the fact that the bulkheads could be seen.

Here are some pictures of my first planks (Hull and Deck)

I had this Kit for 22 years, and I didn´t start it because I never felt confident enough to build a plank on frame kit, and additionally, I had the idea that I got the worse kit available in the market till I saw Y.T Victory in another site.

Mr. Closehaul
You made an amazing piece of maritime decoration. Hull lines are very elegant! I guess it´s a unique piece since there are a just few Atlantic’s to see. I really like the ships selection from Bluejacket. I would bet that you enjoy looking your accomplishment every single day!

Not willing to be reiterative, but what you've accoplished is outstanding, I have the Model Shipways old solid hull kit, that may father never finiched. Regretfully he passed away last year. Now I wnt to hollow thos solid hull and follow some of your steps.
The drawings though were too old, so I'm trying to find out if the old Yelloy box solid hull kit has the same mesures as the new plank on bulkhead kit. Amazing and impecable result Richard, I would like to see her with sails.
Kind Regards
