  1. It’s really hard to work up a pre chewed wooden deck. I’ve had best results using Tamiya powders. Otherwise when I did Graf Zeppelin I used AK Washes dipped at the end of each plank then pencils and with my US carrier airbrushed tan
  2. Done time off and the airbrush is out. The metal deck is navy blue, I’ve modulated it a bit but as she was so new in 1942 it would hardly be weathered.
  3. Do the screws sit side by sides?
  4. Yes, little gaps pop up that I’ll treat before painting and the rails will sit along there too. the guns are just amazing, kinda defeats the purpose I know but I thought I’d give them a go for my next two ships.
  5. Clunky is clunky! anyways, rear mast and direction finders for the 130mm guns, then the base of the main superstructure which took about a day.
  6. looking forward you following, hope you weather it
  7. What Carl said! Also Jamie at Sovereign hobbies in pretty much the absolute expert in RN Colours, I’m happy with near enough
  8. Continuing with the superstructure. The PE is fantastical accurate down to .1mm ledges for the folds to sit in, but I’m not a fan of the doors which are clunky
  9. Now, some tank photos with Strasbourg in the background (would have made a great diorama.
  10. So some aftermarket resin capstans (kit ones are atrocious on every single kit) some anchors chains and I can start moving aft.
  11. Lower hull, I oversprayed some primer so I could watch some panels in (as usual the lower hull is smooth), a boot strap sprayed in then the lower hull. I won’t weather this one as she only got a couple of years service before being scuttled.
  12. Skeleton of the ship done, couple of hundred portholes to drill out and city out the hangar space. the plan is now to work up the lower hull before I start on the PE
  13. And it starts. A quick trip down to the hardware store to get a hardwood Plank for a base.
  14. Sorry, should have been clearer. The PE set has done very nice upgrades for the kit guns. The 3D printed stuff stands alone, but you can purchase them with or without blast bags (she had the in 1942 so o chose option 1.
  15. Probably the same problem I have as the shipping costs more. The PE for the guns is amazing too so I’ll trial it on the aft guns
  16. Yes he’s very good, I’m at the stage where it’s supercedes PE but it just becomes a very expensive exercise after a while.
  17. So arriving today from Micromaster in New Zealand, the main guns and 130mm waist guns. 3D printed art. They didn’t travel well but nothing is broken!!!
