  1. Strasbourg in Toulon during July 1941. This is a series of photos taken on at least two occasions during the month. Initially a launch approaches the battleship, then another series of three photos depict the ship replenishing from trucks pierside. The last photos show her underway and headed out for a training exercise. Note the armistice-mandated neutrality stripe on Turret II. Another really great aspect of these photos is the detail shown of her stern catapult and Loire 130. Photos are from Bibliothèque historique de la Ville de Paris.
  2. Whilst I’m doing a log this can cover the upgrade kit and instructions as it’s fresh off the shelf in Hong Kong them a 2 month trip to Australia. it’s one of the few upgrades that do’nt need any extras.
  3. The kit is pretty standard fare, limited hull panel lines. the PE instructions are actually linear for the first time in history. Pretty much flyhawk quality. Not a beginner set but 15 frets!
  4. So, ordering as you probably well know is problematic during this crisis. So I order up 2 kits with extras and the bulk of this one has arrived, just awaiting some delicious guns from Micromaster in NZ. Best 3D printing I have seen hands down. The Big Blue Boy upgrade is Newly produced so this should be one of the first builds. I got some actual aa guns that are not a flat piece of PE which I dislike anyway. The plans are from Profile Morskie. I also got some extra aircraft for the hangar. The ship was commissioned in 1938 and effectively gone by 1942. Not much to weather
  5. So, the next 2, there is a newly released upgrade for Strasbourg on a slow boat from Hong Kong
  6. It would be a very very small tour! You Victorian's won’t be allowed out for a while
  7. They are fine denier thread, the copper wire is very hard to thread as it bends so easily and you can’t unbend it.
  8. So the paravanes are rigged and the plastic cover is off the base, I’m calling her done. I’ll take some better photos for the gallery tomorrow IMG_3530.MOV
  9. A bit of a buff overspray to dull down the shining white tarps, ladders, paravanes, all other dandyfunk has now been added, just rigging of that stuff and touch up painting to go. Now if I can just find the italian flags that I have lost
  10. They usually left them on, but the line that runs from the mast to the bow would be down for the aircraft being out, so it’s a matter of displaying all the elements so to speak
  11. Continuing with the awnings, I have to teach myself how to make the canvas out of cigarette paper now
  12. Around 100 plus Awning stanchions, I ran out of ones provided with the upgrade so used some I left over from Yamato
  13. Tamiya make a 2 rail set (out of steel and the best). Ship Yard Works also have it. Go to Hobbyeasy in HK is the easiest way or EBay. obviously some upper works were solid metal (French warships appear to have solid railings as well. Given the amount of work and handling needed the deck stanchions needed to be lowered. rigging 3 bar railings is a killer and you go through some drill bits
