    I’ve been lucky enough (if you can call it that) to be able to go in to work and continue as normal. The advantage of living on an island we have only lost 101. anyways, the bow area painted red and white for identification. Step one. A day of dryng the I can start on the Hull, then start the weathering and filtering processes.

    It’s interesting how there is a few new multi media companies bringing out some great offerings now. Whilst they seem expensive it’s not that bad when you consider how many after after markets are required. With the advent of 3D printing some of the detail just blows my mind and it now is a PE / Printing aftermarket world which just supersedes Resin but the base plastic kits are still pretty damn good.

    Amidships metal deck, it needs to be quite dark looking at the original photos. One I’ve done the red and white now I can work it a bit more.

    I’ve never had problems using them (the dry decals, but a coat of matte varnish always helps. The only time I really use varnish is under a chipping coat

    My plan is to have it to the side, this is a photo of a 1/100 scratch build which led me to believe the kit may not be accurate! you won’t build it? How about Seydlitz?

    The aircraft launch rails, tiny, painful with 50 little guests on each side. The hangar cover scratch built ( you can see the brass one behind it that is too small) and it appears to be a canvas covering

    Depends on what colour they are in real life (I airbrush mine, Primer, base colour then a rust wash). Otherwise it looks like cheap jewellery

    As long as you paint it, the shiny chains really distract

    The PE starts. With this piece stuck down I can start the deck features.

    So, lightly grunge up, I need to leave it for a day to let it set them I can re mask for the boot strap then upper Hull.

    A bit of oil canning, (it just reminds me of tartan), I’ll let it dry till tomorrow then grunge it up a tad.

    Denier is not wire, it’s the name of the rubber compound

    BNA is still shipping, and they have denier line. The AUD has tanked so it shouldn’t be that bad. The fading thing is a nice effect. Look up a bloke called Jamie Duff, he runs a site dedicated to warship camouflage

    He does 1-2000 scale (and sells them too). His tool set must be amazing as he’s also really fast and scratch builds them

    The scratch build is sublime! I forgot about that.

    And back to Zara. Bit of touch up to get the hull plates right at the bow, some trimming of deck features that need to be replaced. Now to drill a lot of tiny holes for 2 bar stanchion poles.
