In order to show every detail, try to take pictures of every step. Although also has some flaws or the insufficiency, but overall thought that still quite satisfied. Thank you for your support and likes.

garyshipwright reacted to dvm27 in Speedwell 1752 by dvm27 (Greg Herbert) - FINISHED - Ketch Rigged Sloop
With Speedwell back in her home port I can commence the rigging. I have not sat idly by during her absence though and have fully prepared her masts and spars to expedite rigging upon her return. I will be using ropes and tackle made by Chuck as they are the finest commercially available in my opinion. As well I will be using Johann's excellent Creole log for inspiration. All the masting, sparring and rigging is fully described in volume two of the Speedwell series so I won't be going into quite as much detail as previously. As my last rigged model was constructed over twenty years ago I expect to proceed at a glacial pace. For me the process is more enjoyable than looking at the finished product.
In the photo below one can see the unusual tops which are present on the contemporary model. I found them aesthetically unpleasing and have constructed the more traditional top I am used to seeing. If anyone can cite a contemporary model with the original tops constructed as per Speedwells I would appreciate a photo.

Now it's time to finish the head, so I had to start producing a long-delayed component - a figurehead. Making a figure using a CNC milling machine was quite a challenge for me. You can now judge the result.

Finish laying this part of the beam and finish painting the lower layer. The next step will be the outfitting construction of this part.

Hi Every one, Its been awhile since my last update and most probably figure I fell off the ends of the world. Well the misses sent me a life line and finally went back to doing some thing on her. I sort of been stuck on the cables and how the messenger was routed. Ben from Ropes of Scale help me on the cable and Druxey gave me the ideal about the snatch block. So I went to work on making a snatch block for the messenger using Lee's measurement, from his book The Masting and Rigging of English ships. It didn't come out to bad But I leave that up to you.

Morning Giampiero and thank you. I like the boxwood light color and wish I had built her gun deck with it but hindsight is 20 20. The pear does show up nicely. She does have a few different wood's in her and hope my son wil get some enjoyment out of her in the future. Once again thank you,. Thanks Bitao and Druxey. Glad you guys like her and hope to do even better on her in the future. Getting the lower deck some what done, it's giving me a push to get more done on her, that and having you guy's push me forward. I do get a lot of enjoyment out of looking at her, and thanks again. Gary

Part of the issue here is folk like Gary and myself giving you instructions from the cheap seats! Or is that the cheap sholes?

garyshipwright reacted to Drazen in De Zeven Provinciën 1665 by Dražen - Scale 1:45
Towers are ready. The windows are missing and some details. This will be done later.
The sharp edges where the klinker are connected are not very exact, but I didn't care since the sculptures are going to cover this areas.
The whole system is like LEGO - it can be disassembled in order to paint the parts later separately. Also the other parts on the side galleries can be removed. This will be shown later.

Thanks for your input, guys! I made a decision!
I finished planking the bulwarks except for the plank sheers. This was done in boxwood, including the black strake. The upper and lowers wales are ebony. I chose to make the center "filling wale" out of boxwood for the contrast. In the AOTS series, both HMS Blandford and Royal Yacht Caroline have this arrangement for the wales. I decided not to use hooked scarf joint on the ebony wales since they wouldn't show up well. The filling wale joints are typically butt joints but I took some license and made a couple of hook scarfs: one on each side.
I cut some holly planking and dyed it an aqua/turquoise blue. I used Transfast water soluble dye so I could glue the planks without worrying if the glue would hold. Do you guys like the look, or is it "too much" for a natural wood model? I'm not committed to anything yet. Those planks are just sitting there!
