Again...I came to the same conclusion. I did have an epiphany....though. I realized that no matter what we do...you...myself or Vladimir. We are building our interpretations of the Glory....based upon the latest information...COUPLED...with our own unique skill set to bring her alive as we understand her. Modeling what we see is not always accurate to others perspectives. How Ron Haug interpreted Glory's bow from the same images I see is....well.....beyond me. But he has a different perspective then I, one constructed from years of shipwright design and experience. So since we are all attempting to reconstruct what we see in photographs to what should be her design, We all have the freedom to *Interpret* what we see differently. It's not like choosing your own facts..but more like describing to a policeman what you saw. Like I'm fond of repeating.......*Perception is EVERYTHING*. I'm also fond of doing it my way, .....unless I'm demonstrably proven incorrect. Rob(Pushing forward)

Keith and Pat……. We’ll thanks. I used a dental material called DuraLay. It is actually a temp job. I already replaced it with a good crown and bridge compound material. I also made the scroll work under the hood too. Images later

Here are some images of my scroll work on the hood....I have more refining to do for sure. Cameras make things look worse then you think they are. I surely have to get better at this. I primed it to protect it. Rob

Thanks everyone. I just used what I had...and it was exactly what I needed. Well today I did a bit of work...I first finished up some work left over from yesterday and I then added the main rail. After that I began a bit of deviation work and I proceed to put my shaky hands to the task of making the scroll work on the Hood. I primed it after I was done. I also made some mods to the stem. I didn't like the abrupt curve that was in the bulkhead...so i added a shim and readjusted the stem entry to a more sleek profile. I have to now begin the monkey rail and the 18" upper gunwale that sits on top of the main rail. Lots of little things...but here are some images.

Wonderful work Vlad. You are paying great attention to the nightsheads and the sterns qualities. Super. We definitely approach construction differently. You stick more with the traditional approach...where I slap it together. It's easy to imagine a technique or a way you wish to go or do...but then again actually translating that into reality can be the biggest challenge. (Either one doesn't know what they are doing, or they lack the necessary disciplined skill). I've made so many mistakes and made far too many assumptions already. But I plug away, knowing that a glue or paint or even smoke and mirrors will cover up my many trespasses. I look forward to your planking and am excited to see your technique (A Special Note:).......I chose the smaller scale, because within it, I can hide(mistakes), but I can also disguise details...or even omit some, without their lack of presence ever being noticed. Your extremely large Cutty, did not afford you the option of (Omitting) any details. this is probably the greatest reason why I cower behind a smaller scale. I can convince myself I'm doing a good job, while excusing of my sins. You're doing a great job. Rob

Well. I needed a material that was flexible but still rigid enough to resist distortion. I was able to roll the edge that abuts the hull. The trim makes the hood very convincing. I still have the main rail to finish and then addition of the monkey rail. I’ll add the main rail sheer trim as well. I will complete all the trim and flashing for the port side before I move to the port side

It has been a very slow couple of weeks. I was on holiday then we had an extreme heat wave for half a week (112 deg). So I was out of commission for a while. But I'm slowly getting back into it. I measured and cut both gunwales and cut in their sheers to meet along the planksheer curve. I first painted the blue/grey waterways first...because that would be pretty tough to do cleanly after the install of the gunwales and framing...that are painted pearl white. I'm in the process of cutting all the framing. I will paint them first prior to install...and I will paint the joining edge of the gunwales and planksheer union. Just makes the finish so much nicer. I'm using maple veneer for the gunwales. I began with the port side first....measuring, cutting , gluing and painting.....then I'll move to the port side. I get more satisfaction and a sense of greater accomplishment, if I tackle and complete one small project at a time then if I were to do both sides at the same time. I failed to take images during this work, but I will make up for it tonight, when I can put in several hours. Still lots of sanding to do and the addition of another coat of latex grey primer to fill in gaps and identify any more irregularities in the hull. It's a process...but as I move along I'll draw closer and closer to the final black finish.....but fist I'll have added all the moldings and channels and the naval hood. Thanks for looking in. Rob

I did take some time yesterday to add the sub deck. I still need to finish it off and sand it in preparation for the planks. Still working on the final contour of the hull. will add a bit more filler and do some more sanding. I'm off for holiday for the rest of the week...so I won't be doing much on Glory till next week. Thanks for looking in. Rob

I agree. If you are going to only plank her...your planking job has to be spot on. And to use several colors to denote the coppering and such is a great idea. Like I've always said along...I'm pretty much a sloppy hack model builder...preferring to cover my multitude of sins with paint and copper then work hard at making my strake joints perfect. I'm looking forward to your planking beginnings. Rob

Vlad....you're doing a fantastic job faring out those bulkheads. Adding and subtracting material to make sure your angles of clination are just right. Love the attention to detail. I found myself doing exactly the same thing.....however.....I tend to augment that with the addition of external compounds on the hull that I sand in. I check...add...sand...check...add...sand....until I'm satisfied. Much of the hull will be covered in copper tape...treated to look like Muntz metal.....so I feel I can allow some very minor blemishes to remain in those locations. More unorthodox methods are upon me. I will add the preassembled bulwarks(Up to the main rail) to the planksheer . Starting from the aft, moving forward from the poop. I can easily bend the precut veneer bulwarks with the framing added.....to the planksheer...forming along the hull, easier then if I simple add the framing, then lay strakes, as most kit processes outline. I've done and gone against my original notion of NOT adding a sub deck and I added one of thin maple veneer. I gathered there would be too much flex in the deck between bulkheads......so to prevent minimal gapping and flex of these deck timbers....I went for it. The addition of the thin veneer sub deck is very minimal any way. I'm prepping for holiday to the coast, so I will not be working on Glory till next week...but I will take a pic of the new additions when I get home from work today. Rob

RICH...I'M SO GLAD YOU ARE BACK IN (AT LEAST A LIMITED CAPACITY). Thanks for the fine comments..... Fathers day celebrations slowed me down a bit...but I hope to get back at her very soon. This week I am going on holiday to the ocean, for a weeks long bike ride...so it might be next week I can get back full swing. Rob

Well...it is always a solemn moment when someone finishes a build....the anticipation and excitement of visiting and viewing will be greatly missed.....however. Congrats on one of the best examples of model shipwright construction around. You picked a well documented example to model....and from what we have seen you have executed it completely and most accurately. Thanks for the wonderful adventure....and may we be blessed with your new build in the near future. Again....congratulations on her completion as an exploded construction example of a wonderful Webb clipper. Rob

Adding some more filler to fix that bulkhead defect and some more blemishes. Once dry....next couple of days....I will sand again and then add the deck prior to the gunwale and forecastle rail. The hull looks a little short, because of the lack of gunwale. Rob
