Those interior shots of the hanger deck are so realistic yet at the same time haunting. She looks like even more of a ghost ship than the Graf Zeppelin did when you were building her. It is going to be amazing when you place the planes and possibly people in there to kill some of the echo!

The crimping wire may be the fastest, (Other than buying something commercial) Possibly you could just make a top layer rather than fill the whole basket? 54 is A LOT of nets!
-
Here are a couple of possibilities out of several: https://freetimehobbies.com/1-350-white-ensign-photo-etch-us-stowed-floater-nets/ https://www.whiteensignmodels.com/p/WEM+1350+US+Stowed+Floater+Nets+PE+35110/5179/#.XfbNbOhKi1Q But it might be just as well to put some glue globs onto lengths of thread, or wire and when dry paint, cut, and stuff into the baskets. But even empty, that many baskets will be impressive.

Looks like a bad place to get a bout of sneezing! Dumb question I suppose, but do you intend to fill them with float nets as well? Enjoy your drink. I think I would be well through half a six pack by now!

WOW, the photo etch on this kit seems to be a gift that keeps on giving. I think I would be totally cross eyed by now! It almost seems amazing that you are able to keep track of it all.

Take care and get well Jack. Hope it does not interfere too much with the holidays.

Thanks OC. I need you to come over and do all of my dirty dishes though. Food was too much, family was OK, and cleanup will probably take days! I think we used every dish and tableware we owned in the house!

Great work Denis As always I really enjoyed this build and again it will be sad to see it go. I fully expect though, that as soon as your turkey dinner is partly digested you have started your next project and have pictures to prove it. With superior skill comes greater responsibility, (to your followers) to keep us entertained with whatever you are building. Have a good buzzard day!

Don't I wish!

He will have to stand in line. The torment season in my house has already started. Getting everything just so for the annual holiday visit by the kids is in full swing. Cleaning eating areas, (Meaning the elimination of any model working areas) shampoo the carpets, Clean up my reading/research area, etc etc etc. There are four people in this house, you would think that the other people would have to at least stash their activities for the season too.

The news talking heads are already lined up on the dark roads with their coats gathered up around their ears forecasting gloom and doom and the sky is going to fall! They are now showing that everyone should be carrying a folding shovel in their car and blankets/rations just in case. That probably means we will have a dusting in the morning that will be gone by 10am!
-
With all of the research you have done on this build you will possibly be one of the most knowledgeable U-Boat experts anywhere. I had no idea that the details you are showing were even available outside of some kind of research facility! Thanks for sharing these bits and pieces along with your excellent model build.

The only problem with that is that Mark lives about 350 km (+-) from me while he practically lives in David's back yard. Plenty of room there now that the boat is gone.
-
Yeah that would be cool from this end too. Now that we have an excuse to get drunk we need to find the time and place. Turns out that you live closer to David than I do!
-
So it was not a case of poor planning, just slow building! Your neighbor got his house done before you got your boat built.

REBEL...............................

I have heard of building so big that it would not get through the garage door but never having to lift it over the house. Next time build it in the front yard! The neighbors will have to start calling you Noah. After all we live in the PNW EVERYONE knows it is supposed to rain here a lot!
-
My only question is why lift it so high? Trying to fly out over the trees? Welcome aboard Dave from a fellow Pacific Northwesterner.

The entire hanger deck overhead looks great even when you are not right there looking into the doorways. It could end up being hard to tell from the real thing once painted.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
