Is this the kit thats needs some slight work on the sheer towards the bow (upwards) inlcuding some of the port holes.?

I think I read about it on one of our fellow build sites  where someone compaired the plans of the actual ship with the hull in the kit, and discovered the kits hull is slightly too level and missing some sheer towards the bow,  they recrified it by building up the bow a few mm (not sure of the exact amount)  and filling some of the port holes and re cutting some new ones to follow the new sheer.

Interesting OC. I would need the top view, and the line plan to get that right as well. There is one other detail: Is that a G class or an H class ... they do differ despite the fact they share the same basis. Furthermore, I couldn't find data for it, so I don't know if all were built in the same yard ... can't imagine with the pressure of WWII, did the yard stick exactly to the drawing ... (need for speed)

Im not 100%  sure carl,   it mentions it even in a kit review  here    -  http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/hms/dd/eskimo-350-tsm/tsm-review.html

I am sure that other model makers have said the lack of sheer follows for most of the RN ww2 Destroyers, please foregive me if I am wrong, I have never built one and just quoted what I have read.

Just be careful, as it’s pretty soft. Just go slow and the wood should work fine. All else fails you can use boxwood.

I havn't really been able to concentrate on my build over the last couple of days,   but earlier I came across a plan that shows some quite decent details,   one area I have decided to work on is the section panel lines, these are the hull frames and with a slight drag of my scalpel blade against a wood frame, I should be able to create some subtle detail.

    Here is the plan.

Thanks Downer.  That's kind of the look I'm hoping for.  I want to use it for some stern carving work, specifically the carvings just under the quarter galleries.

    Mark,
If you take a look at the pic of my ship “Union” up above about 10 posts you’ll see what it looks like. I used Tung oil on it and it’s sat for about 15 years in a closet. The yellow is nice and warm but not too bright. I used it to approximate the yellow ochre paint that they used on 18th century ships. Either way, what Chuck said. Oils make it a bit darker and poly and sealer a bit lighter. And it sands and carves great with good flexibility in stits. But it will always be yellow, after all, it’s in the name

This is going to be fun. The amount of detail you can get in a model this size is going to be amazing. Looking forward to my first group build. Do we get hats? 😂😇🤣

I may be looking at the wrong thing but the small gun I see on the port wing looks more like a single Lewis gun.
Oh now I think I see what you are talking about. Twin guns but still look like Lewis guns to me.

Nice work on the rails Carl

That's just it. I'm not stretching it, in fact I had never heard of it before.

What size did you use on this build? They show three sizes on their website.
