    I've been continuing with making shrouds and deadeyes so far, hope to get more today as time permits. Got Port side first shroud on and tightened things up now on to the rest for the foremast. By the way, I ordered blocks and some line from Chuck. I now understand the fuss everyone has been making about his products. I have replaced all of the blocks that came with the kit with Chuck's....outstanding. I really didn't understand just how much of an improvement could be made by replacing the lines with Chuck's until I physically could see them. As funds permit I intend to completely replace the lines that came with the kit and only use Chuck's. Well worth the investment guys. I'm going to be posting all of these on my website shortly as well as letting my followers and customers know how to contact Chuck to purchase their own.

    Today, I finished the first shroud, made the eye and added it to the stbd. foremast. Was real busy with the business today, so didn't get much done, but at least a little progress. The Lanyards are taught, but not finished, just tightened up for spacing. Now for Port.

    Actually Henry, it took me a minute to remember what you told me about worm & lay, and I answered too quickly, I havent done that yet, but will be probably today and yes, it will be correct - thanks to your explanation on board, I understand the importance, and I would not have know that otherwise...thank you again my friend...

    Hi Henry, good to see you. Thanks for stopping by. I did not worm and serve, my lines were getting thick, and my next smaller size is too small. I hope to improve as I progress through these. how've you been? You guys have really been getting socked! What do you do with your time now that Conny is in the yards? More time on the workbench? Hope all is well.

    Finally got the courage to start serving the shrouds today. Got setup and working on the first one....still working on it.

    I not only sell them but use them. I have had no problems with mine or heard any complaints from my customers. No it is not a Sherline, it would just amount to how close your tolerances would need to be. If machining or milling metals perhaps you could justify the cost differences to Sherline. I have had Sherline lathes and mills and they are great tools, but for most of the woodwork and light metal use the Proxxon tools are outstanding. Check my site as I offer the Proxxon line at very discounted prices. We hoard them for special meals...still can't find them here but at least the package has a website we can order from. John

    Hi Piet, I'm sure it will lighten up in a little time and sunlight, which it's been getting....everything else has. I'm my own worst critic. I guess I just figured it would be the same....just a different lot I guess.

    Good for right now Michael, thanks. Hmm, looks like my yellow ochre is a little darker than the rest...I'm glad it's consistent with each mast and no where else.

    My yellow ochre paint finally arrived, so today we didn't have electricity most of the day - don't know why - nothing except something must have blown somehwere in the lines. Then when we had electricity we didn't have internet. Not good. Sitting in the dark, mostly cold weather...naps were in order. so only got a little bit done. So the masts now are 100% done, got the paint on and the masts stepped. Ready to actually serve.

    Looks very nice Larry. I blackened mine as much as I liked the polished brass, but I didn't have any Blaken-It at the time so I painted them black. Looking back I would have blakened them first, then painted them again after I got them into the pinrails. Most I've ever seen were a rough natural wood finish and mostly covered up with the ropes and lines. Unfortunately if they were brass in real life, it would take a crane to get them into the pinrails - they'd weight 400 lbs...lol. Keep up the good work, I love the color scheme on this ship.....again, Capn's perogative.

    Nice work Bruce. It really is a fiddly thing. I didn't have my press or the X-Y table at the time I made mine and it sure makes a difference with those tiny Basswood slats. Yours are nice and straight....keep up the good work. John

    Thanks for all the likes guys. It's good to be at this point, now all I have to do is learn how to serve the lines...never done this before...should be interesting...suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks Larry, yeah, she's a tall ship for sure, it alsmost seems disproportionate, but it's not, all is correct. I'm quite happy with reaching this stage of the build - never thought I'd get here....

    I managed to go through several different types of materials to construct the Lookout Rings. In this configuration I am going with using 2 Lookout Rings on the Formast and the Mainmast. In reality they are round iron rings, but I wasn't happy with my wire rings I attempted to make. I finally found a plastic container that holds small drill bits and it was the right thickness and diameter, so I cut these the right thickness to simulate an iron strip. Then painted them white and dryfit them back together and set them on deck. At this stage I am now completed with the Masts. Yea!
