  1. Hi Rich, I like your wood stand for your Conny. Thanks for the Kudo's on mine, greatly appreciated. I have an actual rough slab of Red Oak (I think) which was cut off of the real Bowsprit on the Morgan during her restoration. I plan to use it and mount both my Morgan and the Constitution on it. I just have to figure out how I want the finished product to look. I'm making some Dolphins and might use them to cradle the ships...not sure yet. Keep us the good work.
  2. Looking real nice Rich.....good idea on the lamp shades..You should have no problems with your yards. The round nose pliers are a must in every shipyard...I have 3 pair...
  3. Well, today I spent all day in the shipyard....what a concept. I think this is the first full day in almost a year, so now it's back to work before spring and our next trip, so I'm going to try and get a lot done. I finished the Port side Chain Plates and it is definitely one of those situations where practice makes perfect, the more of them I made the better they got..I just hope my first ones aren't too bad, and as time permits, I'll probably address the problems, but not right now. Need to do a little touch up paint yet, but it's presentable. I have to think about where I'm going from here next...hmmm
  4. Thanks for all the likes guys, much appreciated. Yes Popeye...a real photo....what's the world coming to???
  5. Well, today I was able to finish the chain plates on the Starboard side, did some corrections to the Foremast chains which makes me happier somewhat. On the real Morgan after restoration, there is only a double chain on the Foremast, with single chains on the Main and Mizzen masts, so that is the design I'm following. The plans only show a single chain all the way around.
  6. Thanks for keeping us all updated Jay, it really helps keep us all focused especially all of your documented videos and detailed explanations....greatly appreciated.
  7. Hi Rich, yeah, making wire eyes is easy, cheap, and keeps you working instead of spending your time on your knees with a magnifying glass trying to find something that belongs to The Carpet God's.....
  8. Well, I fnally got some time in the shipyard. A little rusty for sure...probably need some "relative bearing" grease to get m old fingers started - as the Bo'suns used to ask for. Working on chains for the Foremast deadeyes. Not as neat as I would like, and not lined up the way they should, but it's a start. I might come back and redo them or not..probably later on in the build. So I'm going to be going all the way around the ship and get these done. Here's the start, I soldered some o f the components with the resistance solderer and Ca'd them to the channels and hull with brads:
  9. Looks great Bruce, I really like how your lettering turned out, and I'm glad someone else had success with the same process. Confirms to me that it's great way to do it, I especially liked how the blacks merged nicely and you don't see any difference in color. Your doing a great job my friend, keep it up and soon you'll surpass me. By the way, I sent you a question by PM on one of our old posts. John
  10. Hi Rich, I have just discovered your log of the Conny. I built the Revell plastic one. It only took 45 years to finish, but I got there. I'm currently building the CW Morgan, but follow the Conny Club as much as I can. Looks really good.
  11. Congrats Andy, really looks nice. Great job, and you managed it in almost record time. What's next??? John
  12. Very Nice Patrick, looks like you might have figured it out. Like the new toy, enjoy it, they work great...wish I coulda' sold it to ya'...lol Merry Christmas and a very Properous New Year...
  13. Bruce I found some pictures on my website Gallery, "As She is Now" pages. Here is one showing it empty. The compass was a square box about 18" on all sides with the compass "dome" on top. It sat on the crossmembers inside the skylight. Looking up from the officer's quarters, there are a couple of "racks" (beds) on one side with curtains. Not seen from above. I can't seem to upload that particular picture for you. I took some pictures of my Morgan and you can go to the website to see the ones I referencing. They are down the page under the Len Turner pictures #38 I think (if I counted correctly)Here are acouple of pictures of my model. John
  14. Hi Bruce, looking good, my friend, it's really nice to be able to see someone else doing this ship. As for the skylight, to the best of my recollection, on the aft end near the helm is where the compass is located inside the skylight cover, then the rest of the light is over the Officer's Mess Table. There is nothing else under the skylight. The top and sides of the skylight have glass windows to keep the water out, and are hinged to open up for ventilation. Also more than half of the light is under the Hurricane House roof, and when you put in Mrs's Tempkin's Cabin and the Mizzen Mast you really can't see into the skylight. Something to think about is that you probably can't see through the skylight to see whatever you put there. I'll look in my pictures to see if I have anything showing this. Cool idea. Hope this helps.
  15. Hi Patrick, good to see you back. You might refer to Jay, (modeler12) I think his log is complete and he really built an outstanding model of Conny. He really documented his work thoroughly. Also, Henry (popeye2sea) is a former crew member as well as member of the 1812 Marine Association, and gives VIP tours of Conny. He knows that ship inside and out and is a great source of info. Hope this helps. John
  16. Looking good Bruce. I thought about furled sails, in fact it could still be an option, just not sure I can make them look real enough. Keep up the good work.
  17. Hello guys & gals, I wanted to pass along some information to those interested. As most of you know, Alexey Domanoff is a very good friend to MSW and many of us that are on this site. Alexey has just notified me of the release of a new product - his Prosak Ropewalk v3.0 a very innovative solution for making quality scale ropes. It is featured in the "Tools & Resources" page on my charleswmorganmodel.com website. This is an upgraded version from v2.0. Link: http://www.charleswmorganmodel.com/tools--resources.html Looks like a fun tool, I am going to try and get one of these to finish the Morgan with. John
  18. Hi Larry. Looking good and now you have a production line. Yeah that MF 70 mill package is nice. We all strive for that one. Sorry you couldn't take advantage of the sale maybe later. John
  19. Looks nice Larry, good to see you back in the shipyard. Henry Ford for sure on the assembly line technique.
  20. Hi Bruce, looks really nice. The fun really gets started when you start on the deck structures. I can see your new toys in the background. Very nice John
  21. Wow, that certainly puts things in perspective Mate. That's a big model. Well done, now I remember why my Connie didn't get a case...no room.
