DSiemens got a reaction from seafarermiami in Queen Anne's Revenge by DSiemens - FINISHED - ~1:1250 - BOTTLE
Thank you all for your comments.  I did some research on the paint and with some help from a couple guru's on this forum and in the club I found my answer to the color scheme.  I also think it fits the Queen Anne's Revenge rather well.  She took a much darker turn.

Ships in this day in age generally came in three colors.  Ocher, red and black.  Usually a mixture of the three.  The colors came from different things mixed in the paint.  Black was created from ash.  Red from oxidization or essentially rust.   I'm not sure about ocher I'd have to ask again.  A very common theme for the day was a black ship with an ocher stripe a long the gun ports and red on the inside of the bulwarks.  This seemed to fit so I went with it.

The masts are in place but I plan on cutting them down and stepping them.  Still more to do.

One last update.  At the request of the pirate I made this for, I wrote up a build log for his website.  He gave me a link to share.  It will be officially posted on the 15th or 16th so this is just a sneak preview.

It tells the full story and has a few things I don't think I included in this build log.  Also if your interested in the golden age of piracy his site has a lot of information.

After yestedays Planking Marathon on Keel 3 ( Scratch  built Build Log) I decided to have a little fun with Keel 2 (The Blue Boat), I made a Door for the bulkhead in the Cabin, Painted the Bulkhead a Flat White, as well as the cockpit seat benches . I made a Grating for the cockpit floor wich will still need to be stained, (and will be able to be lifted out as to gain access to the Bilge)some molding for the Fish wells and a Tiller. On Keel 1 I had to make new Blocks for the Rigging ( I accidently threw them away) Here are the results

I finished the rigging, I would like to add some more detail to the decks but if I add to much detail I wont be able to get it in the bottle without damaging it. I also made the cradle to hold it in place in the bottle.

More updates.  The upper decks are in.

I will add four more guns on poop deck and then move forward with the masts and chain plates.  Also if any one has any ideas on colors to paint her that would be very helpful.  I'm really not sure what I want to do.

I did get work done on Keel # and #2 today. I first finished the cabin, and got it ready to varnish, Then I decided that I just need a cutwater and a rudder and I could varnish Keel #2 so I did that as well . Here are the results

Thanks Michael, Mark, Sjors and Stan.  Your complements are greatly appreciated.

Mark remember that Michael also built a cutter at 1:500 he's pushing the limits on both ends.

Stan people like me appreciate the fine art of emptying bottles keep up the good work.  Your ship building skills are fantastic as well.

Got some more work done.  Bulwarks are completed on the port side and half of the cannons are in.

Thank you Mark, Grant, TJ, Tony, Bill and Elmer .

I've made all 10 Hances. I've used a simplified design eliminating the fancier rolled scrolls on most of them - they were hard enough to carve out the way I've done them   .

The upper ones on the forecastle and quarterdeck have been scarfed out to fit to the planksheers :

OK, here you go Ben and the others who commented on my Hances v1.0 - I've remade the Planksheers and the first Hance using a dark shade of Swiss Pear. I'm much happier about the result - crisper definition and far less chipping out. There are minor irregularities which you can see under high magnification, but to the eye they look pretty good if I say so myself . They will look even better when a finish has been applied.
