  1. The upper railing is on! I like the card railings better. They are closer to traditional photoetch is terms of holding their shape better and workability. The only downside is that they take a little longer to cut. That one took about eight hours to cut out. I broke about one in three of the rails and had to glue them back together. They are less than 1/32” thick. I’m sure that I will get better and therefore quicker as the model progresses. This is valuable learning as I have several more of these in my stash, including the AAMM plans of the predreadnought battleship La Hoche and want to get Le Charlemagne too.
  2. I reconfigured my shipyard back to building ships. Here is that upper railing so far:
  3. I used the AL Bounty Jolly Boat as my intro to an actual planked hull model boat. It worked perfectly and I learned a LOT!
  4. I’m not generally a fan of the Mantua set of model houses (of which Sergal is a part), but a Sergal kit can make a great start for a build, just be aware that if you want any real levels of detail and accuracy, it is going to be a kit bash, not a kit build, and involve much research, which you should do anyway for the best results.
  5. Endeavour looks great! I am my own sewing department. From my personal experience and in my opinion, it is worth the extra work to make all sails and display them fully set.
  6. Welcome!
  7. Have fun! Be safe! Your model will do very well!
  8. Bob, I haven’t looked in for a while, Astrolabe is looking amazing! My sincere condolences for your friend! Those plans of the Astrolabe look like AAMM plans, and their plans are amazing!
  9. Welcome!
