    Cutting the piece from a sheet of brass would probably produce the best result.

    I'm wondering if forced edge bending was used. And if so, how often. Would this be enough to distort the hull?

    Bottom band of planking finished. Now to mark off the center band planks and the stealer. While the planking isn't perfect, I'm starting to get the hang of it. Each row of planks is just a bit better than the one before it.

    Wow! Its been awhile. Anyway I'm just a bit further ahead than where I was when I dumped my first attempt and started my second, That is, just starting the lower band of planking. I was hoping to make quicker strides from here on but tomorrow we have to travel downstate for one of the granddaughters plays, drive back on Saturday and Sunday is another granddaughter's birthday party. So perhaps I can get another plank or two done on Monday. The holidays are quickly closing in and I know that will delay thinks a bit as well. But I'm determined to get this model finished so I can start on my Pilar model. Had an image to post of my current progress but it seem the site is having some issues at the moment. So Ill post some on my next update. Merry Christmas to all!

    Welcome aboard! You might consider starting with the 3 boat starter kits from Model Shipways. A great way to introduce yourself into the world of wooden boat modeling. I wish these were available when I started.

    On my sloop there were several different places for tell tails. Some were placed on the standing rigging to observe the apparent wind direction. There were tell tales on the face of the jib to monitor the shape the jib. Then there were tell tails on the leech of the main sail, one at each batten, to monitor the shape of the main. None of these should be confused with the reef ties.

    Never had that problem.

    I find it much easier to wear a face shield than trying to work around the mounted polycarbonate shield.
