Hello shipmates and Cog Ok started sanding the next block of balsa wood, it needs some filler in parts. Question for you all, according to the little bit of paper they call an instruction book you only take a small amount off the frames from 1-4 about 1mm in width but just on one edge, so going on that I will stop sanding them and leave as is, but will go on what ever you all will say like take more off. Jo.

Hello all, sorry back again ☺️. This is my first attempt at sanding the balsa wood. According to the instructions this is how they tell you to finish the frames off, blend the filler part on the keel to the frame but don't forget I have put some filler blocks in. If you all think I should do it a different way please tell me. I do have to fill a bit in with some bog. Jo.

Hello Sam I have to sand 3 other sections first I have only done one part and that took me about 4 hours. Then I have a strip of wood that goes on the outside of the hull frames this has to line up with the deck planking. I then have to plank above and below that strip, after that I have to drill about 6 holes each side above the first strip (that I think is walnut) this is for the sea water to drain out of (don't know what you call them), then I have to put the second layer of planks on. But before I start I have to phone the HRV people, the red light on the control panel is flashing that is telling me the filters have to be changed. Last time I had it done it cost $350 for about 10 min's work. Jo.

Hello Sam Re balsa wood, I tried the rasp but it was hard going, was afraid of breaking the frames and getting nowhere with it. So I reverted back to the knife then the Dremel with the drum sander on it. Will get my finger nail files out and finish one part of the blocks, then have 3 more to do. I will try and post a photo soon. Jo.

Hello Carl I am fully aware of where the Netherlands (Holland) are, flat lands full of bikes and tulips ☺️. You will tell me next that you are related to the boy that put his finger in the Dyke. Now what can I make out of that word Excrete. As for the wider area where I live, did you not read my post 😉 or did the water come over the Dyke and get into your eyes. T T F N. Jo.

Hello Sam I am a jean and top girl myself but I do like other things 😉 that I will not mention on this forum, but I do know what you are talking about, I used to purchase $800 - $1,000 dresses then I came to my senses. I will go back to Bunnings and have a good look round for the tool you have said above. Thank you all for your advice and help and not forgetting the likes. Jo.

Hello shipmates Sam and Carl you two make me blush at times, maybe I should replace my photo with a shipwreck as that is how I feel at times 😫. I have glued the last block in now, that is all I did yesterday as I had the tree people in to cut 5 trees down, not big ones but they was growing very high, I am sure when I looked at then they grew about 10cm a day. Re rasp, I take it that is some sort of file, I have not got one so of to Bunnings again (we are on first name terms now, hi Jo back again, what are you getting today). I was going to use my Dremel with a sanding drum on it, but if you all say use a rasp then a rasp it will be. I have the sanding stick but no nails now 😒. Jo.

Hello shipmates Ok please, please don't shout at me I am trying my best. I have started filling in-between the frames with balsa wood. I thought balsa wood was soft ☺️, well I put large blocks in and thought I would cut and sand them back, so I started to cut one block and all was Ok till I got to the next one (all on the other side of the hull no photos of them) well it is as hard as concrete, the man next door said it is end grain I was cutting (what ever that is). So I thought I would finish them of back and front, I have pre shaped one side, then I will get the Dremel out and put a sanding drum on it and sand it all down. Ok you can all get off the floor now and dry your eyes from the laughing 🤣. Jo.

Hello all Ok I have put that horrible staining job behind me now 😫. I have now put the other 3mm x 3mm strips of wood on the top of the frames. Also the planking that forms the walls to the cabin, they have to be lined with walnut strips (think it is walnut). I did note that the centre strip that goes down the frames and passes through the cabin that bit has to be cut off later, but you have not got much room after the walls have been glued on, so I cut that part off now, some steps have to go down to the lower deck in that area. I have also glued some parts on the front and back of the keel, I think that is where the hull planking is glued on. Jo.

Hello shipmates Ok I am so, so, so, sorry I have let myself down but most of all I have let you all down, so sorry. I was trying to be clever, I thought I would stain the lower deck planking but it turned out to be a mess, mess and more mess I feel like a Khyber Pass (sure you can work that one out haha). But hey I have to look on the bright side you will not see it when the top deck goes on ☺️. Jo (SORRY).
