SHIPSCAT replied to CDW's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
Hello CDW I have been looking at your builds and thought you would like to look at this video. Jo. -
Hello all A small update 😁 but no photos bet you are disappointed with that (NOT) 😜. I have cut the top of the frames off as per instructions 3 at the front and 3 frames at the back. I was very nervous as the hull planking was glued to them but they came off Ok. I have filled the twisted planks that bend round the front and back parts, today I will sand the filler down and finish the planking at the bottom of the keel. Next after that the instructions say to plank the deck, I have decided not to do this as I am going to have ago at spray painting the inside of the ship walls (don't know what you call that part) then plank up to that part as I want my deck to be finished in varnish. Hey Carl thank you but with me it is more MISS than hit. Jo.

Hello Guys and Gals A small update 😁. I have put a coat of sanding sealer on the hull. I am sort of happy with my efforts with my sanding but I concentrated mainly on the upper part of the hull as this is going to be varnished, but I can still see some filler. The lower part will be painted green, top part white with a black line under the white as this stands out about 1mm from the hull. The wood looks nice when the sealer is wet, I hope it looks nice when I varnish it. Again thank you all for your likes and help. Jo.

Hello shipmates I have now filled and sanded both sides, will go over it again with some 320 grit like the man at the shop told me to. I think I will paint the top part white, if the middle of the hull looks Ok I will varnish that part, and the bottom will be painted but not sure what colour yet, was thinking dark green ?. So excited now most of that nasty sanding has been done 😁. Jo. Sorry the H at the end of varnish has moved down hahahaaahhahhaa.

Hi all. Ok I have finished the planking on both sides and started sanding down one side. I still have to go over the hull with 120 grit and 320 grit (that is what the man said at the shop). After I have finished the sanding down I will plank the bottom of the keel and the back and front bits. I also have a bit of filling to do before I do the final sanding, but my fingers have been bleeding so will leave it till tomorrow 😪. Jo.

Hello Carl Did you have your eyes open when you looked at my photos 🤣. Not sure if I will improve or not but I do hope so as I don't wish to let you all down. But I have to say the ship looks better than the photos. I have about 9 planks on each side to glue on, then the hard job of sanding down (my poor fingers are going to bleed again I just know it haha). Jo.

Hello all After a lot of thinking I decided to plank the lower part of the hull the way the man did it in the video has done it. So yesterday after plucking up the courage to start the planking (yes 4 hours of putting it off haha) I did the first plank. I put the plank on the hull and moved it up or down so the end of the plank would end up at the bow and stern below the walnut strip. I have to say it was hard trying to hold the plank with one hand and draw a line and hold the other end of the plank with the other. The line was my guide line for when I glued the plank on, sorry was out about 3mm at the bow end. Jo.
