  1. Decided to cut this board in two pieces to make it easier to handle. My new Proxxon table saw made it very easy. However, while one of the sides fitted perfectly, the other one didnt line up... should i be worried about the hull not being straight?
  2. Time to take the final decision on going with Walnut or Tanganyika for the 2nd planking....?
  3. Done! Its abit messy with CA all over the place. Any suggestions on how to clean it?
  4. Your buildlog is a great inspiration for me!
  5. Thanks, yes I bought a used issue form Amazon UK... but unfortunately it was shipped from US and took a very long time to get. I also had to pay extra because of coming from the outside of EU. My AOTS Diana was much easier and cheaper to get. I Think I will try to get the Bellona issue at one point as well.
  6. Lower deck finished... this will basically not be seen when the model is completed but Good to see how the supplied mtrl looks like. I have bought my own maple for the next deck.
  7. Unfortunately, the inner bulwark patterns didnt fully match up with outer gunport patterns, so i cut them into several pieces before glueing them in place. I hope this works.
  8. First I hated it... but then it turned out to be some kind of therapy 😛
  9. First step done... there are a few spare parts in the kit if you mess up but i didnt need them.
  10. Taking a break from the coppering of my Snake and doing some details on my Granado. This was not easy.. made a jig but still very tricky to get everything in place.
  11. This is like running a Marathon... twice considering i have 2 sides to complete...
  12. If you want to do a very detailed and high quality model, my number one tip is to buy alot of sandpaper and really use it everywhere on every piece on every side and make sure perfect fits.
  13. Made quite a lot progress with my Snake the last days and are now into the copperphase. This will likely take some time but after that its time to do some really nice photos in my studio. Now it start to look like a ship!
  14. Considering its your first model, I wouldnt get stuck on extra details like that. Just follow the instructions and put the bulkheads into the frams and start the first layer of planking. You will learn as you go along and when you do your next kit you can start trying to raise the level of quality.
  15. The waterline will require som decision making again. Depending on where I place the ship in the stand the stern will go deeper and the waterline will change. So how deep should this be?
  16. This weekend has been focused on sanding and filing, getting the deck prepared for planking. You really need to put alot of work into getting this right and the question is what is "good enough"?.
  17. Cant wait to see the final result! Just a question, is this not upside down?
  18. I hope Chris dont mind me reposting one of his photos of the construction of the Amati Victory. In comparison with the 20 year old HMS Diana kit, just look how he have reinvented kitdesign. Yes I agree fully that the cutting out gunports are one of the tasks that would really benefit from being simplified.
  19. Skeleton done…. the middle plank locking everything into position required som tweeking to get in place. Had to fill down some angles to make it easier so slid into all of the bulkheads.
  20. And I couldnt resist her any longer, even though I should focus on my other builds... Big pile of bulkheads numbered to ensure i place them in the right pockets...
  21. I just got a visit from the German Santa Claus... so I hope this will speed up the process of my builds 🙂
