Thanks EG for your faith in my dubious bashing skills, did I mention this is my first major foray into detailed add-ons🙄🤭 Yes the Black Box cockpit is very nice, but I could not find one within a reasonable budget for the life of me at the time!😔 I've been doing some serious sanding and thinning of both fuselage and cockpit tub😊, I'm nearly there with an acceptable fit and putty/filler is on standby! As I'm still wrestling with the P/E seat belts with my eyes going crossed after 10 minutes. That's another advantage of the Black Box offering, it's all resin parts, no curse inducing photoetch😃

Thanks to everyone for the encouraging comments and for the 👍's up. A little bit of an update, and it looks as though there is going to be some major bashing to fit the cockpit into the fuselage! This is because the cockpit is for the Trumpeter kit and not the Revell🙄 part of the kit had to be pared away to allow the instrument panel piece to fit in. the underside is causing me a headache as the body of the cockpit prevents the wing assembly to sit in place🤔😶 I'm thinking that the marked area may have to be sacrificed?, but once everything is fitted it won't be noticeable. If none of this works I'll revert to the kits cockpit 😔 I don't want to do that though as the AF kit looks nice. Anyway I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again for visiting 😊 Cheers

Thanks Craig, and thanks to all for the likes! More bits fitted and glued in the cockpit, both sides and rear bulkhead dry fitted, the pedal thingys (actual technical term😆) are a bit wonky but my hand wouldn't stop trembling 🙄 Still got some detail painting to do and the seat belts to put on the seat. I've started them and already cursing 🤬. P/E is a bit more challenging than I'd allowed for. Big respect to the people who work wonders with it, more often at smaller scales than this 😛 Appreciate all interest in a novice photoetch user muddling through! Cheers

Wow! Big parts count. Should be good, I'm sitting comfortably 😉 -
Managed to get a couple of hours in last night, the aftermarket cockpit kit came out of the box and some very small P/E details were added. A dry fit of some parts has given me some doubt as wether it will fit in the fuselage 🤔. If it doesn't I will go back to the original cockpit that came with the kit😊 Also fitted all the wing hinges but forgot to take photos🙄 It is progressing slowly. Thanks for the likes, and hanging around. Cheers

Another tool shop that draws you in, then takes your hard earned😄😇. Some of the V parting tools could be ideal for the job!

Welcome RA, as Mark (mtaylor) said the group projects are a fine place to start a scratch or semi scratch build, Winchelsea being one, with the option to buy laser cut parts or attempt to make them yourself. Vanguard Models (MSW sponsor) here in the UK have got great kits and Chris Watton is also a member here. Whatever you choose to build, enjoy yourself. 😉

Good evening, I've completed another band of planking on the port side, and started the corresponding band on the starboard. Also I had to rip some more 1/4" strips these ones are my best to date, I think by the time I've done with planking the hull I'll be making some half decent strips😊 Thanks for looking in and the likes. I'll post some more photos when I've got a bit more to show. Cheers

Well summer seems to be over, rain a cold weather for the last few days, so in-between planking Winchelsea I have been doing little bits on this Gluing the hinge parts of the wings, and making up the landing gear. I will be getting back to the cockpit in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for popping by and the likes😉 Cheers

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
