Thanks Steven and Carl and all others for the likes. I have largely completed the running rigging and all that now remains is to decide on the sails. Should I leave it with bare yards or bend sails which may obscure a lot of detail in the rigging or maybe not. I have a cunning plan to do the sails in Silkspan to reproduce the bellying of the sails ( see my carrack build for a similar technique).

    Cheers

I think maybe another update might be in order as I was allowed to spend quite some time in the garage.

First of all, a photo of the finished belaying pins. They have a coat of Tung oil on but the colour of the wood barely changed.

I also took a photo of my drill inventory-part of it at least. You can never have enough drills.

I did an experiment with seizing the lines. This is wire rope, seized with black thread and encased in shrink tube. The crimps are fishing crimps cut in three. It looks ok I think.

One side done. Note that the ropes are not touching but I think after the crimps have been seized with thread they will come closer together.

I attached a piece of wire rope to temporarily hold the spreaders in place. The other spreader was badly attached so I had to remove it, fill the pivot hole and re-drill.

A few more photos, the boat is large and is difficult to get good shots

I also installed the forestay. The bowsprit had taken some nasty bumps over the last few months and I noticed it was loose. I glued it again but I must remember to be careful. With the bob stay on, it should be more secure.

Suddenly it feels that the end is very close! A couple more photos

Forgot to ask previously: Red base coat when chipping to make it look like rust?

I presume these were in the after market set. The kit's booms were probably to weak to keep the net up ...

    Hi all

Shipyard is in the garage and it being a bit too cold to go in there during the winter I thought I'd do something a bit different:
Also had a case of builders block with Le Mirage... And also really wanted to finish a kit in less than 20 years! I've been watching a few (lots!😄) Of plasmo's videos to get some tips. I've not got too many progress pics but here there are

As you can see I've gone for a greyer colour than the box art which just looks too much like blue to me.
Question for the more experienced plastic modellers out there: what kind of spray varnish (out of rattle can or with brush) is the best? I've tried humbrol acrylic varnish out of spray can but it comes out far too quickly and also appears to make the paint crack...

    Thanks for looking in

    Nick

Torpedo net shelves, boom arm brackets and torpedo loading hatch (for some reason it’s on the plans but never provided for or on the kit.

Ken is right, it tends to go to orange, hardly fire engine red, Jack (I have just recalibrated my monitor - 4K) Nice build by the way. Something not so violent ...! It could be the setting of your camera ... white balance ...

Odd, it looks like you have to set it "colder" when your red is going towards orange. Maybe play with it a bit. Or just leave it at it, and don't be bothered by Ken nattering about orange
