cog reacted to yvesvidal in U-552 by yvesvidal - FINISHED - Trumpeter - 1/48 - PLASTIC - Type VIIC U-boat
I decided to build some re-enforcement, inside the hull to support the delicate lace:
It is not visible from outside, but it gives me a piece of mind and should strengthen the deck significantly, until the PE deck is glued (and even after).
I am getting ready to cut the final openings for this section of the hull:
After this, we are moving to the clear section of the stern. I am not looking forward to that part (same with the starboard side of the hull) as it is very brittle as all clear plastic are. I have ordered special cutting bits for my Dremel and I hope they will be efficient at biting into the clear polystyrene.

Thanks Jo. Sorry to hear about your father, my belated condolences. You should build the Blower. Lovely car, although, I am biased, I love British racing cars, and two seaters. You should have a look at the tutorials from this bloke you might find some interesting information for plastic car builds

cog reacted to Old Collingwood in Black Pearl by Old Collingwood - FINISHED - 1/72 Scale
Abit more work done - I fitted some blocks at the ends of the mainformast yard, then made two sections of rope smoothing out the frays again using watery pva - then I ran the rope from a lashed end on the yard ends and through the blocks on the mainmast tops down to each bulwark handrail where they where looped then lashed around two inner bulwark fittings and then cut off with a dab of ca.

cog reacted to Old Collingwood in Black Pearl by Old Collingwood - FINISHED - 1/72 Scale
Good day all, many thanks for all the looks and follows, I picked up where I left off on the foremast top section - I fitted the top yard footrope then timmed the ends, next off I fitted the blocks to the topgallant yard then gave it a few coats of paint, then I attached it to the topgallant mast in the lowered position - it was than lashed and added a few dabs of ca to set it.
I then made up somemore lift ropes - smoothed out the frays with watery pva, then I worked the rope from the top through the other ropes and down to the other tied off ropes on the bits, this was repeated both sides - then a footrope was fitted.
A few pics folks -

You don't have much left for structure on that deck. Wouldn't fixing the brass restore some/most of it's strength so you can continue more easily?

I like those depthcharge throwers next to Y-turret, got a few of those (3D printed) for the RCN destroyer. She is turning out rather well, mate. The oilcanning looks very good too. Don't forget to eat now you're home alone

Hello Jo,
Thanks, it seems you pop up all over the place
Actually not holding back, my back is holding me from it. A few more weeks of manual torture, and straining excercises, and I will be good to go. Good to have you join in the fun of screwed eyes and headaches ... You should have a go at one of these plastic & PE things sometime. All sorts of new tools you can buy

Sounds like you are a victim of your own success. It's good to know that folk want to ask questions and engage you in conversation. Potentially there could be a new ship modeler or two as a result....

Hello
thanks in Advance for the nice comments and the LIKES.
To be continued:
Other tackle elements for the bowsprit were manufactured and installed. There are then later fixed different stays.

Very true, but I am getting to the end of that structure. A few more cuts and it will be finished. I can then move back to the hull and complete the installation of the PE parts. Gluing the PE deck parts will be done last.
I am also thinking about how to secure the other half of the hull, while allowing the opening of it, for access to the modules or for maintenance if something gets broken. I think miniature screws (near the keel) and micro magnets (under the deck) may be the way to go.... To do that, I need to have access inside the hull, through all the openings I created.

Thanks for your interest Jo.
Indeed, there are so many "addons" in brass, metal, resin, etc which gives this type of model building a whole new dimension, besides the developments in painting, and weathering ... it isn't just plastic anymore, a whole new ball game
It has been a long time ... it will revive, the log, I just need a pair of macro eyes screwed in my head with all the tiny stuff which is still to be done, and replacement parts for my lower back, but it will happen

Home alone ... don't make a mess of it, at least you can get something done, if work doesn't interfere. I really have to get used to your seasons, they make ours seem off track, or ours are(!)
